Polar Speed Sensor Rear Wheel Mount - Pulling hair out...

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Polar Speed Sensor Rear Wheel Mount - Pulling hair out...

Hi,

I know there has been discussion about this already, but none of the found searches has helped.

I have been trying to come up with a way to mount my speed sensor on my rear wheel for trainer use this winter. I can't find any position that the sensor will work with the computer on the aerobars. I would have to mount the computer on the top tube for it to work. Which will be ok.

But what have you used to mount a wrist watch type computer to your top tube? Since it's in wrist watch form, I guess I need something that allows it to mount on the side. My top tube is pretty large, especially toward the front. Any ideas?

What is the correct jumper position on the speed sensor for increased transmit power?

I know there's been discussion of changing a jumper to strengthen the trasmitting range of the sensor. I have tried this and it didn't seem to help very much. When I took it apart, if I remember correctly, the jumper was on the inside to pins (There are 3 pins total). Do I simply move the jumper to the outside two pins? Or do I remove it altogether?

And I know the power sensor would solve my problem, but at this point I'm not willing to spend $300 for it.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, just move the jumper over to the other pin. Worked fine for me.

Would the plastic handlebar mount that came with the unit not work? Just clip the zip ties are remount it on the top tube. Zip ties are cheap at Walmart, Radioshack, etc. You'd have to read the display sideways but I'd think it'd be doable.

Yeah it will work sideways, but I don't want it sideways. Thanks for the response though...

Here is the link:

I tried it last winter but couldn't have a constant reading when the computer was on the aerobars. I guess the front tube prevented the connection. On the top tube it worked. But as I wanted to have a convenient location even when riding outside I ended up putting the speed sensor back to the front. I just tracked time, cadence, and heart rate, no speed or distance.

Thank you very much. That is exactly what I was looking for: specific instructions on how to increase the transmit distance. I just wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly.

Now all I need to do is find a way to mount the computer to the top tube, or stem (not sideways). Anyone?
