Custom Painted Frame Options? Sources?
 

I found a few sources for custom frame painters online, some of these guys had some EXCELLENT example photos. Can anybody recommend some good expedious companies? I think I'd like to disassemble my Trek this winter and send it out.

Now, I couldn't start a thread like this without mentioning Rad and his saga, I tried to use the search function to find if there was ever mention of where that Tete is being painted and didn't find it. Where is that bike being painted so I know not to EVER EVER EVER... EVER send a frame there. Is it too much to ask that a bike be painted and returned within a couple of months? Maybe they always take that long...?

Of course it's not unreasonable.

But, please be careful when being publicly critical. While my guy isn't right for most people - the truth is, there isn't anybody I'd rather have doing my frame.

Not Joe Bell, not Brian Baylis, not Cyclart, not Spectrum. All of whom are excellent.

And though I think my guy is an organizational disaster, I made a conscious decision to work with him for his other skills - artistry and craftsmanship.

I hear that. Most often, perfection doesn't happen overnight. I'm just thinking that the goals for your frame are somewhat different than mine, I simply want a new 2-color finish, probably not the level of intricacy that you are working to accomplish.

Your Trek seems rather new an '04 in team color. Why do you feel the need to paint it. You may look at just having the Trek factory repaint it for you.

Try reading this post. I just got off the phone with my LBS and it should be done this weekend, just in time for snow. Seriously, Jack Franklin is a very good painter with real good prices.

I really encourage you to look around locally. I found an auto body shop 3 miles from my home. They do a lot of motorcycle frames and tanks. They can do hand painting, pin striping, flames - anything you want. I had him do a black to yellow fade on one of my frames. The image is below. Cost? $125 including both colors and clear coat. Time frame? I picked it up 6 days after I left it. I couldn't do anything with it for a couple of days because the paint was still too soft. Check around. Ask a local motorcycle owner who does this kind of work in your area.

Thanks, this guy is really talented and like I said really reasonable. He did this for $320.00 but he would have done it in one color with painted on Felt gfx for $220.00. That includes the bead blasting (something he has to send out for) which is around $60.00.

Thanks for the input everybody. Yes, my Trek is an '04, but it's exactly the same as my wife's, different size of course, and I'd like to do something different. I like the stock graphics, but I love flames on bikes, those Project One frame flames are awesome! I've got enough bikes now, I was going to sell the Trek when I got the Kestrel, but they're so different that it leaves me thinking that the Trek is much better for pure road riding, I'm gonna keep it and do some personalizing.
Will the Trek factory do a "Project One" job on it?
