Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thanks. Nice to see you too. You look marvelous.

I quit my job at the same time I was booted from here, took some time off and have been riding everyday...lots and lots of climbing on my cheetos-colored steel bike..I actually enjoy the suffering ...

The weather is SO perfect here right now - absolutely no wind and daytime temps in the low 70's...now I know what retirement is like!

175mm on my new bike. I got too many speeding tickets on the 220mm cranks.

So what is your latest bike project? Any new ideas?

Toying with sticking a 13-29 on the back to get my rpm up a bit on those occasional 7-8% climbs around here. At 6'2" 195 lbs and 45 years old, I don't think that I can get down to the recommended climbing weight of 2 X height in inches = 148lbs . I haven't weighed that since I was 14.

I didn't realize Lance used a 39x27 on the real tough mountain stages and Heras even used a triple in the Vuelta (thought that all of the pros were such studs that they climb everything with an 11-23 on the back)..

Welcome back.

Whenever I have been unhappy in a job, I always remember that the Japanese use the same symbol for "crisis" as they use for "opportunity".

Crisis=opportunity, and what this means to me is there's something better out there just waiting for me. With this thought, I don't mind burning a few bridges to push myself to go out and find the opportunity that's right for me.

Keeping a positive attitude, I've always found I was right, all I had to do was look and there it was, every time.

So best of luck. I've been riding lots and lots these past few days in this beautiful Florida weather also.

Exile on Main Street's a great album.

The downtown casino I was at for 5 years catered strictly to rich old Hawaian stiffs and it was getting bad...mgt. was treating the employees like kids and they were running off all of the experienced dealers (quitting in droves- I was the most recent) who said the hell with it- with all of these rich old farts playing, the money wasn't that great - the players treated like their own private club and were spoiled.

Surveillance was calling down on us if we were glancing at the million flatscreen TVs on football Sundays (kind of like putting a glass of wine in front of an alcoholic, dontcha think?) , crossfiring (industry term for conversing) with other dealers on a live game. Real Mickey Mouse stuff and it got real annoying.

These fascist tactics are typical "money sweating" that you see at a small casino- common practice in the biz to blame employees if the tables are losing $$$- they think WE are cheating the house .

Major resorts on the strip are more concerned about some "whale" bringing down the baccarat table in the high limit room for $1,000,000+, which happened at the MGM Grand the other day...

Hopefully my next stop. I've had it dealing to locals...same degenerate losers showing up at your table everyday taking out their misfortunes on you!

This town it the ultimate for concerts. It's the new Hollywood!

Saw U2 a couple of weeks ago, Def Leppard last Sunday, the Stones two nights ago, and am thinking about seeing Sir Beatle Paul next week. $$$ is adding up...guess I need to get a job soon...

Work sucks. I really don't believe in it.

Yes it does suck, don't believe in it either, and quitting my job directly resulted in getting my own business. Now I decide when, where, and most importantly, who I want to work for. Oddly enough, the whole thing had to do with Las Vegas too--hope you don't mind, but I'm going to pm you, because I don't want to "name names" here.

My sister-in-law lost her job 2 weeks ago due to downsizing. She's a fashion designer in NYC. She worked at a small company that wasn't able to fully utilize her talents anyway, but as a result, landed a new job at a nationally known company, far more interesting, challenging, and pays almost double! She never thought she could get a job like that but getting downsized gave her the push she needed.

Shows, concerts, Vegas is great!

So what do you do? Are you a dealer? What do you deal? I've never been to Vegas, but it's one of those places you just have to visit at least once before you die.

I'd really like to ride across Nevada on US 50, also. I have a route planned for a trip across America and that's on the map. Maybe in '07 if I have a very large stroke of good luck.

I am a CAT 1 crap dealer. Been doing it for 8 years. I know alot of fancy moves that are not necessary, but they impress the chicks, which was rare at my last job ( kind of like Tom Cruise's bull****e bottle-flipping in "Cocktail"- the drink doesn't get poured any faster).

Interesting stuff - welcome back. Is it hard to get a job at the major resorts? Sounds like a no brainer - same job, but better clientele, better atmosphere, and better tips(?) I'm sure that there are other factors involved, which you haven't mentioned. Anyway, good luck.

Too bad the litespeeds weren't pink. Probably not worth dropping.
