I hate road rash.
It's been a while since I've had a good old fashioned skin peeler. Happened yesterday at around 26mph, lost it hanging a left. Rear wheel slightly bent, rear derailleur a little damaged. the deraileur is rideable, but I ought to think about replacing it at some point, sayeth the LBS. Mostly I just hurt, and I'm bummed because I was only 8 miles into what was supposed to have been a 30+ miler. Now it's raining and cold and crappy.
But hey, I'm alive, especially when I dab that hydrogen peroxide on my hip! |
was there gravel? did you just hook it too sharp? Did you get thrown over, or just slide out?
Please, let me learn from your mistakes. B. |
no appreciable gravel. I think honestly in retrospect I was probably over-zealous in getting the hang of counter-steering. The angle of the turn and my speed at the time weren't great enough to really warrant it, perhaps. I suspect I gave it too much and just dumped. slid across the road, then rolled a couple of times before me and the bike ended up in the mud. Trashed my favorite long sleeve jersey too. damn. All in the name of improvement, right? :D
|
Happened to me this summer, was scared of turns for awhile after that ;), getting back into it though.
I also rolled around though, and it was a pretty bad fall, rolling works. |
did you become unclipped in the middle of this or was the bike still attached?
|
must've come unclipped, because I definitely started rolling at some point. My jersey looks like I got attacked by a tiger- rips on the left front (thank you windblocker!), left elbow gone, right and center pockets worn through. Lots of rash on my left, and a little on my right. Tights torn on both legs.
|
hopefully I won't be scared of turns...they're my favorite part of riding. Plus, I am pretty sure I know why it happened, so I can learn from it.
