Assos sizing?
 

I am considering buying a pair of Assos bibs/shorts as my own Xmas present and would hate to get the wrong size (none at the LBS). How do these fit? Sized like Pearl Izumi? Run small? Run large? Thanks for any help.

They run small, like most European clothes makers. So if you take a medium in PI, you'll need a large to extra large in Assos.

Assos is just too expensive for me to buy without looking at it and feeling the fabric. But others here have it and they can give you a better answer.

They actually fit best if you bend over.

Personally, I wear size medium jerseys in both Assos and Pearl Izumi. Pearl Izumi's form fit jerseys have a similar chest size to Assos, but Assos is trimmer in the waist and arms. Assos is more contoured and designed to be worn skin-tight. If you are overweight, then Assos will likely not work well for you.

For shorts, I wear 1 size large Assos and size medium PI. According to the size charts, Assos shorts are designed for waists a couple of inches smaller than PI. If you're buying bibs, you also need to check their height recommendations or the bib straps may be too snug. Personally, I never buy bibs by mail order from an unknown brand, since you need to fit both the waist and height.

assos fits a bit tighter than pearl izumi for sure. biking clothes are supposed to fit tight so i think its great. pearl izumi cycling bibs, shorts are very sloppy and they move around all the time. assos is worth the money for sure. the fabric on assos clothes are high quality, fit better, and last longer. someone else said that you should check the height when getting bibs. they are correct. assos bib shorts are actually shorter also. i think its good so that you dont have that gay tanline too low :)

soooo bringing this back. If I wear a size large in Descente bibs will XL assos bibs fit me or is there more to it then that?

I wear a medium in Performance brand shorts, a large in Giordana bibs, and XL in Assos bibs if that helps at all. 5'9, 157, 32-33 waist if that gives you any points of reference.

That's strange. I'm 5'11" and 175 lbs and the large Assos fit me perfect. XL would be way to big. I'm afraid when I drop my next 10 lbs that the large Assos will be too big.

I have both PI Microsensor shorts and the ASSOS H FI Mille Half Short. The PI is medium, the Assos is size Large. The Large Assos fits a bit tighter than the Med PI. Also the Legs are shorter in the Assos, but the waist is higher (in the back), the Assos is designed for tall people. I'm 160 lbs, 5'7" so height wise they are as big as I'd want them to be. The lower cut front is a nice touch.

There are other issues with Assos too. The EIT chamois is great in century rides but a bit much if you're just going out for an hour or two. Also they need lots of TLC, i.e. roll them on and off like women do with pantyhose or the chamois will tear loose. But the Assos is great when you need them.

They fit they way they're supposed to. So if you really are a medium, buy medium.

On the other hand, if you've been buying medium Pearl Izumi and they fit well, then buy a Large.

Pearl Izumi caters to the vanity of the US fat ass market, and labels their clothing one size up. Assos caters to fit cyclists so they size their stuff they way Pearl Izumi used to do 10+ years ago.

You get bent over when you pay for them.:eek: I have a pair of the FI-13 S2's and have been underwhelmed with the fit of the chamois and the stitching. Some of the stitching around the front of the bibs is unraveling. This after about 500 miles. I wear a large in the Assos and a Medium in my new Descente bibs, which I like much better, and at a better price.

HOW? WHY?

I'm 5'9" and a few pounds lighter and I wear Medium's. An XL would be ridiculousy large.

Just to give you some comparison, I'm 6'2, 175, 32 waist. The L fits my waist fine but is a bit short (bib straps tight, though not enough to really notice on the ride, legs a little short). The XL is just right height-wise but a teensy bit baggy round the waist.

I've read that the bib is meant to feel tight if you're standing up. Mine do, but feel perfect on the bike. For reference, I'm 6'2", 165lbs and wear L Asssos shorts.

No, They come with a special was bag and you just put them in the bag, place it in the washer on delciate Cold and you are good to go. (You don't need a lot of detergant)


Follw the Asso chart..... It is by height.... Im 5'10" 146 poinds and wear a size large... I also wear a size large in Nalini, Santini, Giordanna, and Campagnolo... but these are all European manufactures. I don't own PIs or Descente so I can not comment on US manufactures.

If you are border line go a size bigger... Botto is on the border line of a medium large. but I think he likes the wedgie feel so he goes medium. :D

All this being said... I like my Santini Fluid Twist Gel bibs a lot better then my Assos. YAMV

I'm 5'8" and low 160's with a 33/34 waist (I'm more muscular and thicker chest shoulders from lifting than the average cyclist, plus could loose another 5 - 10). I started with a large Assos bibs and took it back for an XL. I found the large fit good thru the waist, etc. but even at 5'8", I thought the bibs were a little short in the leg, at least compared to what I was used to. I wear a med or large in PI's and Giordanna.

For me, I find the Assos bibs more comfortable than my PI microsensors and Giordannas.

hmmm well I am 5'10" - 5'11" or so and about a 190 right with a 34 waist right now. I guess I will just go with a size XL and hope for the best.

Ive heard good things about those Santini bibs but I think I am kind of like you in that I want to try all the bibs myself until I find the perfect ones for me.

Hopefully by next week I will finish my review that I'm doing comparing all of the bibs I bought. I like them all, but some more then others.... It all depends on the occasian and length of ride.
