Moab Skinny Tire Festival

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

During the long Oregon winter, I look forward to get away to sunny and warm places. Last year I broke away to the Moab Skinny Tire Festival the first weekend in March. Four days of fantastic riding in the canyonlands of the Colorado River with 800 riders from all over the country.
This is a fund raiser for Lance Armstrong Foundation, this year Bob Roll and Chris Carmichael will be there to speak and ride, who knows who else will show.....how about you and your friends!

A big Bike Forums party would be fun, what say you??

Here's the dope: https://www.skinnytirefestival.com/rides.html

Don't miss the photo gallery, and Shifty is pictured there, who can pick me out?

I just started riding at the beginning of the summer and have been "somewhat" training for this ride. It will be my first organized ride so I'm looking forward to it. I hope there are some folks as slow as me.

No, not me, but the lady just behind the guy with the blue helmet was cool. They are from Aspen, they both grew up there, both in their 60's, and strong!! Very nice people, taking a break from the snow for a bike get away in Moab.

I have the same problem!!! I'd love to go, but my spring break doesn't start until the week after. I'll be out in Nevada and Colorado for spring break, too

Temps here in KY in winter are in 20s-30s. Not many chances if any to train outside. Would work on indoor trainer this winter really prepare me for the climbing you have to do? I have a friend going and she invited me, but I said no beause i did not think I would be in condition to ride those hills...er....mountains. What do you think?

Even better - BF party and BF jerseys! Joe Gardner (runs the forum) lives seconds from where I work. We were talking about going to lunch to mull over some jersey ideas. The skinny tire is one of the earlier events in the year and would be a good goal for jerseys.

Here's a quick concept:

First day is flat, 45 miles, after that there are lots of climbs. The thing is you can take your sweet time, and bring a triple, you'll have fun. The social stuff is fun too, come and do what you can and have fun.

Here's a quick concept:

It's three and a half hours from Salt Lake City, you, Joe and those jerseys would be a fine addition to the event, Joe should call and get a table, I'd help to staff it.

My wife and I are thinking of making the trip from NY! Will most likely meet up with my brother-in-law (from Seattle). Still need to consider the costs (airfare, lodging, registration, car rental, etc.). Do you think it's worth the big trip??

That's a hard one to answer, all I can say is that last year there were people from Florida, New York, Chicago, Minnesota, Tennessee, Washington, Oregon. If you include hiking in Canyonlands National Park, a day of mountain biking on Slickrock Trail, a trip to Grand Canyon - Bryce Canyon - Zion National Parks, Canyon de Chelly Natl Monument, skiing in Salt Lake City, you can make this the big trip of the season.

All I can say is that spending time in Moab is magical for me, the bike festival is a great winter bike event that leaves time for other activities too, in a unique and beautiful place.

I'm signed up. I'll be hauling the 5th wheel or the cab-over camper and staying at the Canyon Lands Campground near City market.

I'll probably bring my mountain bike too.

Right up the road from us, so we may try it if it's not conflicting with a race or some life event.

Well another great weekend riding in Moab, sunny, temps in the 70's, and lots of friendly cyclists. The rides are so incredibly beautiful and challenging, the climbs always giving back with a 40 mph downhill for miles, and food and support on the rides excellent. Riding with tebequache and telenick was a pleasure, and FUN, and the new Cannondale was fun to ride too. I'm already looking forward to next year!
