Where do I go?
I've already posted this to the Mountain Biking Forum, but I might be open to some road time instead. I've accumulated enough miles with United in the last year (28,324) to get an award seat in the continental US. I've been needing some time for a good writing/recovery sabbatical. I'm thinking late spring (Mayish), just my journals, bible, pen and bike, oh, and me too. I'd like the Northwest or Northeast (never been to either of those), but I'm open to suggestions. It's kinda sad, I've been all over the world, but haven't taken the time to see some of the most beautiful places in my own country.

Amost anywhere along the coast in California. Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, Cambria, etc...all great places to ride and reflect.

July at the Fat Tire Festival that used to be in Crested Butte, CO was like a faireyland.
There were wild flowers everywhere when I was there in July of 1990 and on July 4, 1990 I was snowed on up in one of the 12,000 foot passes. Seems like it's now in June so maybe they know something. I wouldn't recommend riding at that altitude without friends or riding buddies along. At the very highest spots you can get so dizzy that it's hard to ride on the trail. Funny how the body needs that oxygen stuff. http://www.ftbw.com/ |
The San Juan Islands and Port Townsend in Washington State. Great riding, sea kayaking, hiking, and it's all only a short drive from Seattle. Or Acadia and the Maine Coast if you want to go in the other direction.

San Juan Islands in the Puegot Sound. Fly into Seattle. Great road riding (you have to ferry to the island so limited traffic) kayaking, hiking.

The wine country. Ride alittle, drink alittle, eat alot, can't go wrong unless you get popped for BUI.(biking under the influence)
