Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You know you're single when...

You're cleaning cassettes and chains with powerful degreasers in the bathtub

The living room contains 3 bikes but no houseplants or cats

Hand washed jerseys are air-drying on top of lamps

... I think I'm going nuts!

...you have a tube of Butt Butt'r sitting on the bathroom sink.
...you place your keys next to the tire pump when you get home.
...your trainer occupies the living room...indefinitely.

I see plenty of guys with what looks like some remnants of a sporty physique, pushing prams, looking at me on my bike with their sad eyes

You just need to find a good woman. I wash my bike in the tub and hang her in the ospare room. Wife doesn't say a word. Well unless I get grease on her towels. Than watch out.

You mean the trainer isn't supposed to be in the living room? But that's where the TV is. And the repair stand with the project bike occupies 1/3 of the kitchen, only non-carpet surface in the house.

I'll admit to buying a folding rack at target for drying bike clothes, less chance of turing on the lamp and burning through the lycra!

My husband has the extra bedroom for his hobby, the bikes have taken over the rest of the house.

You've got a computer in the living room next to your chair, keep a wireless keyboard in your lap to keep on top of bikefourms while watching TV and channel surfing anytime you want.

Not that I'm entirely single or tied down (I'll call it 'sampling')

more bikes than jackets
more wheelsets than pairs of shoes
and an equal amount of rubbers for myself and my wheels

There's a deep down despair that underlines this thread. You want to be married, but still be able to ride all the time and be all the slob you can be.

Like the rest of you I just want it all.

I used to put my entire bicycles into the tub and wash them with the hand-held shower attachment thing. In fact, that's why I got the hand-held shower attachment thing with adjustable spray ... so I could gently rinse the Simple Green off my bicycles.

I've since moved in with my parents so I can attend University ... and my mother won't let me wash my bicycles in her tub!!

Or order the net for your tv (I think it was microsoft that was offering it?) Then you don't need the comp in the same room

Yes. That would be the day! I have no receipts at home. None! Not anymore.
Been there, done that. Those days are defiantly over.

you shave your legs because you want them to look good, not because your girlfriend complains about the scratching.

Nonsense, I'm happily married for almost 3 years now, including:

Bike maintainance in the kitchen

Chain cleaned regularly in the washing machine

Best bike lives in the living room

...I love my wife!

I got caught for that one too, never again. I'll let her know of when I am getting a frame or complete bike, thats about it.

My friend got a C50 w/full record & carbon cranks, the lot. His book kepper after seeing the receipt, asked how many bikes did he buy?

You know your single when it is Pasta again for dinner & there are knicks hanging of every door knob.

Unlike marriage, a Ti bike frame is forever.......

I love my wife, but unfortunately she has a knack for knowing what things cost. I'm sure she reads bike mags when I'm not home or something.

heh. not a problem. the girly doesn't ride, but she is a fanatical runner. we have quite the understanding about one anothers addictions. we even lurk once in a while on each others various forums...... the bag balm and the body glide share the counter equally.

i can bust out for day or long ride trips, and it's all good. oftentimes, we hit the same trails. money on bike stuff? no problem, so long as my share of the bills are paid, and i'm saving up for agreed upon expenses and trips. the only thing then is, it means she has to look even harder to find what i want for birthday and x-mas to find something i want that i haven't already bought!

and we're snowshoeing together this saturday.
