Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Props for my bro. Bit the bullet Bought his first "real" roadie.

A 2006 Trek 1500. Nicer-looking welds and a lighter , stiffer frame than either the 1000 or 1200, 105/Ultegra, Bonty Race Lite wheels for $980. The LBS gave him some matching water cages and bottles. He' definitely pimping.

The 1978 Peugeot I gave him bit the dust (headset went kaput), shifts horribly an couldn't be fixed. it was time...

And the killer paint scheme! The only bad thing is that it looks just like a Disco Madone at a glance, only $4000.00 less. Hope somebody doesn't try to steal it.

Tell him congrats, and get him to sign up to the forums. Will he be sincitysenior or sincityjunior?

A triple.
He definitely needs it.
Beefy, suffering lad on the old bike up those modest 2-3% ascents - about 8 mph...

He's trying to lose 30 more lbs...lost 8 already. Bro cross trains on an eliptical machine during the workdays.

We're going on our first ride with the 1500 today - 18 mile gentle climb. The Trek is 8 lbs lighter than the beater, skinnier tires, 175mm cranks vs.170s, etc. He should be considerably happier after todays excursion!.

Thanks. His bike doesn't have the disco label on it though. Loses OCP points

LOL @ OCP points.

Truth be told, I think I prefer the bikes without the disco label on it. If I could, I'd pull off the "6 time Tour de France champion" crap off my Trek, too, but it appears to be below the clearcoat.

*shrug*

I was just looking at the pic above thinking "Sweet colors, I wish it didn't have the Disco label"

I think it would look better, have him post some pics when he gets a chance

you picked this up for $980? I am looking this when tax returns come around and the guy at the LBS said it would be worth looking into and would run $1200-1300. You get a good deal on it or am I getting stiffed?

$980
Yup. But they know that we're accessories suckers so they'll get their money back...
