What are UCI points

I read on the Specialized website "While most riders won't be seeking UCI points on a Roubaix, everyone will be glad to have a steed that lets them go longer and faster than ever before."

What are UCI points? Are there less given for certain bicyles and for doing things wrong?

UCI = cycling's governing body. Based is Switzerland.

UCI points = points awarded to the top finishers in UCI categorzied events. They determine a rider's ranking and potential worth.

They are basically saying it is not as aggresive a race bike as most pro riders are riding. The Roubaix has a slightly more laid back geometry to the frame which makes it a more comfortable option than alot of bikes. Dosen't mean you can't race it though, it certainly isn't a beach cruiser or anything.

Don't some of Gerolsteiner riders ride the Roubaix instead of the Tarmac? Its really all about preference and I can't believe I spelled Gerolsteiner correct on the first try

Thank you for the info about the UCI points. I was wondering what all the stuff about UCI points were. Thanks Ed for the link with the explanation of it's meanings and ratings.

It is also nice to know the Specialized Roubaix can be used for racing and used in races by the Gerolsteiner team too!

Specialized Roubaix "Developed and named for a 165-mile suffer-fest run across 500 year-old cobbles, the Roubaix is perfect for anyone who wants to go faster and longer."

Ouch that has to be one heck of a beating on the body!
