Just got my Kurt Kinetic yesterday. Last night I did 2 hours on it watching RUSH's R30 dvd and I'm glad I got it. As I wrote in another post, the warranty, all the rave reviews, and the leak-resistance claims helped my decision. Get the Kinetic!

I recently purchased the Kurt Kinetic for $275 from 1upusa. It's built like a tank, extremely stable and works great. The magnetic fluid coupler means no leaks.

I picked up a Kurt Kinetic from my LBS this fall for $240 & have no complaints. Highly recommended!

I bought a Tackx trainer from Colorado Cyclist. What an unspeakable, unusable, unassembleable piece of ****. Amazing. I actually spoke to the US rep who told me that yes, they realize that the thing is essentially a major ***** to assemble as shipped and that they're trying to get the idiots who build this thing in Holland to ship it more assembled or revamp the instructions so that they're intelligible to non-Nasa engineers.

I wound up with a unit from Performance that has stupid software, but essentially works (the wireless unit with a power meter, about $300). They're TRAINERS. They all suck.

By the way I asked the rocket scientists at Colorado Cyclist if they had actually tried to assemble and use the Tackx trainer themselves prior to foisting it on their unsuspecting customer base (because anyone doing so would NEVER carry this thing). 'Not really' came the response. Great. It may be quite a while before I can bring myself to do business there again. I'm still steamed about that experience. What a friggin nightmare. I should send them a bill for the 3 hours of time I WASTED on this dopey product.

I'm just starting to use my new Kurt Kenetic. It works nicely, but doesn't simulate hills (little resistance). After an intense 45 minute workout, my back tire is shredding away! There are rubber flakes everywhere! I guess I had it too tight, but it sure didn't seem like it.

any suggestions?

Make sure your rear wheel is centered.

Only one to buy - 1UP. No silly fluids to leak. No noisy wind trainer. One of the finest engineered pieces of equipment I have ever owned - it's just so simple. It's also very well made and solid as a rock, very very quiet. And it feels exactly like the road - it feels like you are riding. Buy one of these and be happy forever and never worry about leaks and it's also quiet compared to wind trainers.
