Anyone use this dampening bar tape system?
Thinking of trying this out from REI but don't want to waste $30.

I've got a teammate who uses it. He swears by it. Are you having problems or just looking to spend a little $?

With today's gloves that come well padded, I don't think this is necessary IMO.

Does anyone have any experience with these? The first one is out of stock, but I'm going to try looking around at LBS's and see what they have.

After riding 700 miles on tour this summer, I came home for the first time with all of the feeling in my fingers. I've never had that happen before! Usually after weeks of riding, I'd come home with at least 2, and sometimes 4, fingers that were numb and tingling. They'd stay that way for up to 6 weeks after I finished. But this time, I had absolutely no numbness. I even rode longer per day than I would usually since my daughter was much slower than I am.
Try them if you can get them on sale but be aware of the difficulty of removal. That's about the only problem I've had with them.

For years I just double wrapped portions of my handlebars. Still generally do that, and now I also have FSA carbon bars to absorb road shock. I HATE gloves in summer. Works for me. The cushioning systems seem like a reasonable variation on my old approach. Handlebars 'too fat'? Ummm - not possible for me.

I guess getting generic double sided tape should work... yes?

I use the Fi'zi:k gel inserts and really like them. They are easy to remove and install and don't add that much thickness, just enough. I have it installed on our all our road bikes:

About $25 on sale, but cheaper if you LBS only carries the inserts without the tape. I hated the tape that came with the kit.

I've installed tennis racket overgrips underneath my regular handlebar tape. The tops of my handlebars were a little thin. Double-wrapping the bar tape made it too thick, so I wound two layers of overgrips underneath. Perfect diameter.
Can't say if its as cushy (or mushy?) as gel pads, but I like the feel.
Here's a link (a lot of tennis companies make overgrips... prince just happens to be my personal perference)
https://www.princetennis.com/product/...categoryID=248
Prices vary, but its usually $5-6 for a package of 3. 1 is enough to wrap either the tops or drops of a road bar.
