Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What are good Detroit-area bike shops?

So I'm flying into Detroit's airport on Saturday, to spend the week leading up to Christmas at my parents' house. And I'm overhauling some bikes while I'm there (I know, I'm only moonlighting as a sociologist), and need to buy some supplies in Michigan. I can't take Frame Saver on an airplane because it's flammable stuff, and would also like to grab some bearing grease and solvent, instead of taking them all with me.
Does anyone know some bike shops in the Detroit area that have easy access from either 94 or from 275 (between 94 and 696) or from 696 (between 275 and 94)?

Thanks for any help here.

I'm not sure if the location of these places works for you, but here are 3 shops I can recommend highly:

Pointe Cycle & Fitness in Grosse Pointe Woods north of the city (313)886-1968 www.pointecycle.com
Bikesport, Inc. in Dearborn (313)278-1350 www.bikesportmichigan.com
Jacks Bicycle & Fitness in Dearborn (313)561-2560 www.jacksbikes.com

Good luck!

If you can make it out to Ann Arbor which is a great college town, check out Two Wheel Tango.

No offense intended etd, but Continental is well known for ripping people off. They always have high pressure to buy, and they are always willing to lie for extra money. They actually told a guy I know that due to his damaged BREAK CABLE HOUSING that it would be cheaper to buy a new bike.

American Cycle and Fitness is honest, cheaper than all other shops in the area, and very friendly. I used to work at Cycle and Fitness, but I don't anymore, so I certainly have nothing to gain by telling you this.
