Mods: What keeps happening to OUR threads????

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mods: What keeps happening to OUR threads????

Noticed that all the best threads got deleted,
Do we get them back after theyve been bleached clean .

Do we not as a bunch of grown adults not get the right to self moderate. We all know when enough is enough.
Those who participate in these threads (you know which ones ) do so willingly, and either the protagonist or the respondants post of their own accord.
Do you wish that we should communicate by PM.
Or perhaps BF should have a "joshing" or "semi-serious argument" forum for the big boys and girls.

Lets have a proper discussion.

+1.....I can't say what I really want to due not wanting to piss off the wrong people. I will just keep my mouth shut and say Ditto to what the above posters have said.

I understand the mods' intentions. I do think, however that it would be better to eliminate the members who constantly post these antagonistic, argumentative threads. Some are allowed to simply go too far. One poster starts a thread for the expressed purpose to get opposing opinions and views, only to attack and berate the members who disagree with him. This is becoming more and more prevalent in the forums lately, and it is primarily the newer members. It is getting to be very annoying and harder and harder to ignore. The mods can't referee everything...trolls will always be a part of forums like this, but once they get abusive they should be banned..IMHO.

Damn its a good thing I don't have to be a mod...they have a tough job!

While I agree with a majority of your post, eliminating some people all together is a lot easier said than done. Look how well it worked against Kezzann a couple of months ago. I think they finally paid him to stay away.

And this is the shame of it all, Gary. Back in Jaunuary, when I joined the forums this wasn't a problem. You could disagree with a member (with the exception of a scant few) and have a civil "debate" or just agree to disagree. Now if you disagree or express a conflicting view, you are labelled as ignorant, a troll, an idiot, or whatever the epithet of choice. If you check the profiles of many of the people guilty of this type of behaviour, you may notice that most of them are newer members or younger members, and do not know many of the older members.....this, of course is a poor excuse for such behaviour. I have even gotten to a point where I am reluctant to post an honest question for "fear" of being told I am an ignorant idiot or a jackass.

Cheers,

Brian

Mod edit, if you're going to complain, at least be kind about it.

I can see people's point somewhat about the New World Order that has come about, but, at the same time, this is the first winter in memory where the mods have had to put up with quite so much BS. I think it's because this forum has so many members, and 'cuz people are getting cabin fever, but folks have been gettin' ill with each other and the mods, who are only trying to clean up the mess. Let's give 'em a brake, folks.

You are right, but it can be (and has been) done...and should be done to the worst offenders. Is it worth keeping one completely unruly member and running the risk of offending some longtime, active posters who have been positive members of this community to the point where they no longer contribute because they are tired of this type of foolishness? And, yes, I do have one "member" in mind.

It looks like Rad's ruling came down and the result isn't unexpected. While some of those threads were both entertaining and a fun way to let off some steam, it was inevitable that they would go bye-bye. My only question is whether anyone got a forced vacation. I figured I would for sure, since I did push the envelope a bit last night. Anyone seen Rad today?

What happened today? Seems like I missed a lot....

Was there a major development?

What is "Rad's Ruling?"

I was so worried! Why didn't you call! Do I sound like your wife?

Edit: and wtf are the pics of the frame?

Hey Rad, congrats on the frame!
What happened today? I've been really busy the past week or so and haven't been able to keep up with all my BF gossup.

Hey, let us know if we've trashed a thread about cycling, ok? Have we trashed any that didn't pertain to a member whose username is also a foreign currency?

Cheers.

Just curious, is a foreign currency still legal tender?

Here's the thing,
I trashed the threads, no I didn't delete them. my reasoning is that
there was so much BS going on (specifically in the re the next thing or whatever
I called it) and so much outing of certain members that I got fed up with trying
to edit the thread and just moved it.
Y'all have to remember that we mods have a life outside of forums too
(my boss appreciates my not editing too many threads on company time).
will I edit them and reinstate the threads? I don't see why not.
Can the general membership self moderate? given what I've seen over the
past few days, despite repeated pleas for some sanity, I'd have to say no.
Therefore we are here, and more present than I can recall in my 2 or 3 years
of moderating here.
One thing, and I don't mean this to sound condescending, it may be
your thread but it is Joe's forum and we play by his rules.

seems to me it would be a whole lot easier to just ban the repeat offenders

Yes, and if you became a moderator, you could kiss that all goodbye. No more reading the threads that interest you, and posting comments/interacting with others. I spend more time online here now, but hardly get any play time. The past 48 hours have been busy times for all mods. No fun there.

Best to stick to US currency. While it is still legal tender, we would like to see members avoiding any FOREX transactions until at least the new year.
