Interesting. I started this year at 195 and got down to 170 by September. I've gained 5 pounds since winter hit though. I really should lay off the soda and sweets. Takes a lot of hard riding when you hit the 4o's!!!

Good job....and keep on riding!

Training weight - 164. Fighting weight - 160. Winter weight - 168. Ok, 170.

Ok I lied. I may have hit 180 last week but just for like one day and was back in "the 70"s. :D

Markio 12-22-05 10:24 PM

I lost 40 pounds this year!

Congratulations!

I started the year at 148 and have been holding steady at 139 for the last 3 months. I'm riding more now, but seem to be gaining muscle as fast as I lose the fat.

How tall are you?

I am about 177cm's so I am not short by any means(my father is 6-3) and i wont stop growing until atleast 6-2 to 6-4. On the long climbs i tend to do very well but on the short steep ones a lot of the more powerful riders around here often get rid of me, lol. I have been blessed with a tiny set of upper body muscles.

Well done Ovo good to see some guys losing some weight on the bike.

My racing weight in college was 153-155 (5' 10"). 14 years later I ballooned to 184 as of this past summer. After having my picture taken with Frankie Andreu this summer at the start of Stage 15 of the TdF (the mountain stage Hincapie won), I noted his build vs mine, and realized a change needed to be made.

Got home from vacation, dusted off the old racing bike, and on the advice of a YMCA trainer, started..

- riding 100-125 miles per week on average (starting low and building up mileage weekly)
- light weight training
- some cross training
- counting all calories consumed and burned, aiming for 500 calorie deficit per day

A few days ago I weighed in at 156, but am probably back up to 158-159 or so with the holiday shopping, eating, mild "relaxation" of the regimented training schedule for a break. Feel better than I have in years and am planning to re-enter racing next year.

Thanks to all of you for helping to provide inspiration and for updating me on the latest bike technology.

My weight peaked in the Spring at 192, now down below 175. I want to stay there through the holidays, then get back to 165- which is what I usually weigh.

First of May I weighed 178, today 160 I am 5'9". put 3000 miles on in the mean time.

Congrats to all. Started again after a 14(yikes) year lay off. Started in Jan at 174 and now down to 142. Stop driking beer, cut down your meal portions, ride and exercise as much as time allows. It will happen. Slower is better. Only solution to weight loss or control is burn more calories than you eat! Merry Christmas to all.

Congratulation to those of you who have successfully dropped weight. That’s awesome.

As for me: 10+ added pounds of good, squishy flab.
Ah, but at the end of the holiday season I’ll be dropping weight quicker than a coked-up, super model.

you guys are all losers. ;)

pitchn23 12-23-05 10:16 AM

I was about 205 and lost about 10 lbs recently. I want to get down to 175 by spring - better cycing weight!! I ate too many m&m's that just balloned me up......back to my senses, eating healthier and smarter!! Off to whole foods for a nice healthy salad!!

My weight pretty much stays at 162 and doesn't move, no matter how much I eat. The heaviest I've ever been was 170, and that was when I was eating 170 grams of protein per day for bodybuilding (pre-cycling craze). A friend once told me I had the metabolism of a rat.

fore0121 12-23-05 01:05 PM

Started this year (actually December 2004) at 230#, bought a new bike and had a renewed interested in road cycling. My weight goal was 190 by Christmas 2005. Just came back from the gym and I was 188.5#. Damn that felt good. I've been hovering around 191-193 for the last month wondering if I would crack 190. Had I not, I was already proud of this year's accomplishment but I just wanted to crack that plateau.

BTW, there was a thread in the summer about heavy guys improving their climbing and whether their leg strength would be greater once they dropped a few. I can say first hand, it has helped me go from being a good climber to a great climber, relative to my own group of guys. (however there is limited climbing here in T.O. ). Can't wait to rid myself of the rest of the extra bulk. Slowly but surely.

Next year's goal, 170. That should be about it for me. I'm a bit worried though as the wife is worried I'll be too skinny and actually thinks it may be unhealthy. I've always been 200#+. so this is already strange for her. I'm 5'9", it would actually be heavy for me, according to the 'experts'.

I've lost 50lbs (give or take a pound).

I'm 5'7" and was at 212lbs. in late April '05. I started jogging/MTBing and watching my portions and the weight dropped quickly. After losing 35lbs. in the first 4 1/2 months I bought myself a proper road bike. I'm now down to 163 lbs. It's been tough the past month with the cold weather/short days, holiday parties, and cookies the wife keeps making. My goal is to lose another 13lbs. by the end of April '06. I'm much faster now than I was early in the year; partly the mileage and partly the weightloss.

Found this old thread in my subscriptions list and thought I'd update since I'm back in the 70's now, too. 173.5 to be exact as of today! Whoo hoo! From 248 to 173.5 in 9 months. Not too bad.

And fortunately that's much faster than it took me to go FROM 173.5 TO 248!

Dead Extra #2 04-15-06 05:27 AM

I'm down from 215 to 190 since November. The first 20 lbs came off easy but progress is much slower now. The weather here is finally turning nice, I hope the mileage increase will help drop another 10 or 15.

GuitarWizard 04-15-06 07:49 AM

Was at my heaviest of 180 pounds last year (up from 150 pounds), after injuring my shin and not being able to run for several months. I had my heart set on completing a marathon, but after crushing my shin between my motorcycle and the doorway while taking it out of the basement (there's a good 4-5" drop, and the weight of the bike going down crushed my leg), I can't run any more than a mile now before I start hobbling. Sooooooo.....took cycling back up again the end of last summer, and am down to 165 now, and have another 15-20 pounds to go.

At my "peak" cycling condition back in my late teens, I was around 135 pounds (5'7"). I'll be happy with 145 now.

55/Rad 04-15-06 08:24 AM

I made it to the 170's also. But I'm going the other way. I'm at 171 from a norm of 163.

3 months off the bike (virtually) will do that.

This thread is alive! :P

I am down to about 175 now. I can't budge the rest of the weight, this is very very sad :( :( :(
