Made my annual goal today!

I made my mileage goal for 2005 today! Goal was 100 mi per week/ 5200 miles for the year. After today's 53 mile ride I'm at 5207. I know that's not a ton of miles for some of you, but for my 2nd full year of riding it's the most I've ever done in a year.

I wasn't sure when I set it if it was doable. I knew I had some major life changes coming this year. Through the end of May most of the mileage was regular commuting with occasional solo weekend rides. Due to Company bankruptcy I had to relocate to Dallas in July and start new job that required working weekends. My rides changed to regular group rides 3x weekly. But finding a regular long Tues ride let me average over 150 miles a week from Sept on and I was able to make my goal.

I feel good about it! Since I didn't have anyone else to share with that would know what that takes I thought I would share here. Thanks!

Awesome! I think people are afraid to set goals like this, in fear or not being able to finish them.

buy you a beer? :)

Congrats. I met my goal today as well. I'm now at 5002 miles for the year! Add in that I'm headed to arizona in two days and I just might hit 5200 like you. :)

LMAO. THE test should be good. Kallis is in for sure and the south africans proved they had a bit of fight in me last test. anyhoos im on about 7000km's since july. I am aiming for at least 20,800km's next year (400 km's a week) shouldn't be too hard really.

Congrats. I haven't made my mileage goal the past two years. Have set it at 6k and have come in around 5500 the past two years. My goal this year is to do some real cool rides and just have fun.

Feels good don't it!

To me, it doesn't matter if your goal was 5,000, 3,000 or just to ride twice a week.
Set it.
Do it.
Enjoy the ride along the way baby!

Could not agree more and congratulations to the OP. As I'm expecting some life changing events next year. I will be changing my goal from distance to amount of rides.

Cool. I missed my yearly goal. For next year, my goal is to not make it about mileage. make it about getting out and doing whatever I want ---hard fast ride, slow enjoyable ride, long ride, etc

I just want to ride more

Thanks for the comments. I'm not so thrilled with the mileage, which is less than many and more than some, but feeling great about setting a long term goal that entailed doing more than I've done before and persevering through several setbacks and aciehiving it.

This is the first annual fitness goal I've made in a few years, so I know there are lots of things that can derail you. Best of luck to everyone in acheiving their goals in the coming year. Now if I could only stay with the group up the hills! ;)

It's an awesome accomplishment to set and achieve a goal - whether it's mileage, frequency or whatever.
I've just gotten back on the bike not too long ago and that's my goal for next yeara - 100mi/wk avg for the year.
We'll see if I'm successful as you were
Congratulations!

Fantastic! I'm aiming for 5000 next year myself. If I don't make it, it won't be for lack of motivation -- real life is the only thing standing in my way. Good job getting it together so consistently! :)

Excellent accomplishment. That is great work!
I tried the same thing this year but came up about 500 miles short.
