Got a Polar 150 for Christmas and not sure if it is what I need?
Hey everyone,
I received a Polar 150 for Christmas from my wife and I have a couple of questions. I was wanting just a basic hrm that had heart rate(current), a programmable heart rate zone, timer, and calories burned. The 150 apparently doesn't do calories burned but it does all of the other features I wanted plus it seems like a ton of other ones. I've set down a couple of times to try to learn how to use it and it seems a little overly complicated. I've found it difficult to navigate through and for me to use. I don't have a need for the cycling sensor or to download to the computer so I was wondering what everyone would recommend for me to do? I will wear it for working out at the gym, some small running workouts at the gym, and riding my mountain and road bike. I am wondering if I may be a little better off with something a little less complex? Any advice would be appreciated.

Howdy, Lee.
I have the Polar F11 and like it. I chose it primarily because it does the calorie computation and because I can replace the battery in the transmitter myself.
I don't use the built-in workout program and seldom use the fitness test, but they are there if I want them at some other time.
I owned the very least expensive Polar monitor earlier and it did fine for me, too.
The menu structure on the devices AND the user manuals are kinda ambiguous, but if you use it a few times, then re-read the manual it gets easier to do the few things it sounds like you want.
And if you search the Internet, I bet you can find the calorie estimation calculation (probably average heart rate times weight and some constant).
If you decide to trade in the gift, the F11 is a good model.
Ho Ho Etc.

Thanks alot. I think I am going to try to use the 150 this afternoon and if it still is hard to figure out then I will probably see if I can exchange it for one that's a little more simplified.

All heart rate monitors are complicated as well as gadgets in general. Ie, DVD recorders.
The Polar 150 is the base model that incorporates HRM functions with cycling functions so you only need to mount one unit on your bike. Not a seperate cycle computer and HRM.
Regards, Anthony
