And so it begins; The plan for 2006 my BF friends...
One more weekend to be lazy and eat much, then it's time to start to lay the foundation for my sixth season of riding.
In the new year I am adding a weekly game plan from my coach, which is going to be posted on my web log training site throughout the season. He just gave me week number one. This is not meant to be any sort of serious, athlete training plan. Rather, this is my specific plan for a 47-year-old guy with a total hip replacement trying to squeeze a riding regime in between a career and family....lose some weight and stay good and healthy along the way!
Two main goals on the 2006 horizon--
One is to have a successful 50-mile ride in June at a huge local event that draws thousands. Last year it was my finest hour, completing the course in a pretty fast peleton that gave me my first real taste of road racing in a group. I ended up at 19.5 average for the event and loved it. I can only hope I do as well this year.
Second would have to be attempting a century. I don't know exactly why, but it is one of those roadie things...benchmarks....that I must at least try. Keeping in mind that I am NOT a distance guy (52 miles in one single ride my longest) this will be a challenge for me.
But the new training plan and coaching should help me and it will be there on the net for all to follow so I don't want to goof up!

Sounds like two accomplishable goals with the right training. And after a hip replacement, you're a stud in my book. Good luck, have fun, be safe, and enjoy every minute.

I'm tempted to make 06 the year of my first century ride and also ride my age on my birthday. My overall objective is 5000 miles of riding.
