Velomax wheels
Are they any good? Online for about $500. What components do they use, their website does not specify.
I'm looking for good/cheap aero wheels and I'm trying to see whether its cheaper to get built up wheels or buy the components and build the wheels myself. |
Yes, they are good, particularly the Orions and Ascents. Circuits are good too for a bit less money.
Did you check out the Easton website? I'm not sure they are updating the Velomax site anymore. http://www.eastonbike.com/WHEELS/wheels_index.html 55/Rad |
I've had a set of Velomax Circuits since spring of '04. Other than having the rear wheel trued after the first 500 miles, I haven't touched them. They're not the lightest wheels going, but they're strong and reliable. I recommend them.

I've been going back and forth between the Tempest II Carbon tubulars from Easton or the Topolino carbon wheel. Yep - Easton/Velomax is top notch.

I really liked my original Tempests. Not the lightest around, but they gave a good ride, and were really solid.
I crashed head-on with my front Tempest on the bike. It broke 2 spokes and put a small dent in the rim. Any other wheel would've totally collapsed with the impact. My fork was shattered, and the frame broke. So, do you want wheels that'll take any impact and transfer the force to the fork, or do you want a wheel that'll collapse and save the fork? |
Thanks guys. I found the Easton Vistas for $199 online, so its a no brainer as far as whether to get a wheelset or build wheels myself. Although, I don't like the radial spoke front, but I guess I'll live with it.
