I am in the market for a 1000$ road bike. There are several online like mercier, monteblanc, and leader to name a few. To get the same equipment on a trek or cannondale you would spend twice as much.Are these bikes worth having to put them together and ajust to save 1000$?

If your savings are substantial spend $50.00 on an LBS assembly, unless you're extremely competent you'll miss out on the best thing about a brand new bike, the silky smooth first ride.

Buy a used higher end bike. You can easily get a year old $1800 bike for under $1000 via ebay and craigslist.
