Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Build Setup

I am new to road biking and am in the process (with help) of building a new road bike. At present I have a Giant TCR 1 Frame (alloy) with a carbon fork and the integrated FSA headset. I intend to put dura ace drive train components on it. I'm looking for suggestions for many of the other components -seat, wheel set, stem, bars, etc. I qualify for the clydesdales - 6'3" 225. Also, any thoughts on sizing for stem, bars, crank, etc. would be appreciated. We're very limited for LBS in the local area (northern Maine). I have quite a while before the bike is usable (due to snow) although the x-country skiing is great for cross training. Thanks in advance.

I'm 6'1" and weigh 220 lbs, so we're in the same neck of the woods in that respect. The recommendations your asking for depend on what type of build your shooting for, all out strength, light as can be, cost savings viewpoint, etc. I can tell you that my seat preference is the Fizik Arione and I highly recommend it. With a little more information about your goals other recommendations can be made. However your question about stem length is not something that can be guessed over the Internet. You should try to test ride some bikes with the same size and type of frame your using and see what stem length provides the best fit. By the way, what is the size of your Giant TCR?

Similar situation here: I ordered a new quill stem from Rivendale last week and would like to purchase a more traditional-looking 3X, Dura Ace/Mavic, 32-spoke wheelset to replace some slightly "wheel-sucked" Rolfs.

The frame is an 03 in xl. I'm hoping to set it up with good quality components, although I am not a wealthy person. I'm watching the internet for good deals, and ideally I will put carbon bars&stem, carbon seat post at the least. Weight is an issue but not an overriding concern. I'm especially looking for recommendations for pedals and wheels/tires.
