when carrying water and sports drink...

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

when carrying water and sports drink...

...do you alternate what one you drink, or drink one till its gone then drink the next? I always aternate. Is this a bad idea? The sports drink is usually gatorade powder mix.

i do the same,

mainly becuase i get sick of one or the other,

its probably better to drink alternativly as , too mcuh sugar in sports drinks in one go, will cause u to 'bonk' quickly,

usualy, i alternate
but if i think about it, its probably best to drink the gatorade first, depending on how long a ride youre on

if the ride is less than about 2 hours, then drinking gatorade in the first hour will put that energy in your system for the second hour and you shouldnt run out of available fuel (presuming youre eneraly well nourished). On a much longer ride then it might be better to go opposite, whatever order leaves you finishing your sports drink about an hour before finishing the ride.

it depends on how much I'm sweating. I usally try to drink some sport drink before I start riding on really hot days to boost electrolytes, sodium, potassium. if you start drinking all water this can further dilute your exsisting electrolytes only a problem if your drink a lot of water. usally best to alternate water and sport drinks. Most sport drinks use dextrose, maltodextrose or fructose and these don't spike your blood sugar. you probably could get by on water alone used in moderation for most rides. but any ride over 2 hours I use energy gels, sport drinks and water alternating between the three.

This is just a weird habit, but I drink the water first and then go to the Gatorade. I save the Gatorade for later when I'm feeling tired and need a boost. It's probably more mental than anything, but that's what I do.

Generally sports drink followed by swish of water to rinse my mouth out. Dental hygenist told me it is not a good idea to leave any type of "Gatorade" (which I don't use) drink on your teeth for ... say 4 hours. So now I mix my Cyto a little strong and then rinse (well, most of the time ...).

I drink the Gaterade first. If I crash I want the water to wash out the wounds. I usually make my Gaterade 1/2 strength.

I mix the stuff thin...benefit of both. I can't stand hot GatorAde, but if it's like 2 parts water to 1 part GatorAde, I can deal with it. Or if a stop is planned I carry water and stop for a cold GatorAde.
