My Garmin Edge 305 Bundle Shipping Tomorrow

Road Cycling ďIt is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thanks for the information. We should compile a list of good places to buy the units.

Excaliberpc.com: 270 for either the 305HR or CAD and $50 for Cadence or HR sensor. $10 shipping. $330 for the bundle. In stock. Great customer service.

Page Computer - $250 for either the CAD or HR, $40 for the cadence sensor or HR belt, shipping is about $10. Bundle for $300 shipped! In Stock.

Best deal yet:
getfeetwet.com - $300 for the bundle but you need the reseller price... Don't know shipping. Double warranty due to an anniversary sale.

Hi, I've read the thread and I definetly and jealous and want a 305 Regarding the magnet issue that I read about on some other posts, if you have aero spokes, there is a guy from Germany selling extremely small and powerful magnets on ebay. His seller's name is dirtyharry9999 or do a search using the keywords "zipp Magnets". You get four magnets and attach them using crazy glue or an equivalent. I used them on my polar CS200 (Orbea) and on my Polar 725X (Trek Madone5.2SL) for both speed and Cadence. They are unbelievably strong and have a stealth type quality.

However, I am still trying to reconcile the data in SportTracks with the data in TC. Primarily the HR and elevation summaries are different.
The latest version of ST can import Edge305 data directly (gotta add a new device -Edge305- if it's not listed.

You can get data from the Edge305 to ST two ways ... 1) Edge305 ->USB->ST or 2) Edge305->USB->TC->Export file (*.hst)->ST
The route you take may generate different results/data.

BTW, I like the unit (E305CAD&HR) except I did have to remove the CAD battery to "wake" it up. It has a test button on it that when pressed is supposed to "flash" when trigger by the mags. It gives you "warm fuzzy" that it's kinda working. Anyway, no amount of pressing would light the darn thing so I had removed the battery which was a pain because the battery access is toward the center of your wheel. Pulled the battery, cleaned it, cleaned the contacts, and reinstalled. The next press of the test button cause the button to light and it "flickered" as the wheel mag passed the sensor.

The other problem I'm having is the receiver unit is not "connecting" to the HRM. When I fiddle/touch the sensor, it connects but shows only 54BPM. As soon as I let go, it looses the connection and is "X'd" out. Did the same battery removal/replace like the CAD unit but no avail. Will got to store and get spare battery (in case it's near dead) to see if that is the case.

Other than that, it looks pretty neat.

BTW, wheel size ... manual never says if this is radius or circumference. Defaulted to around 2000mm. Due to the local weather, can't go outside to do the auto cal. Bike is mounted on a trainer indoors.
My general tire size is 700 but entering 700 doesn't seem to give realistic speed calcs.

Good Luck,
d.tipton

The edge probably wants the tire circumference, which should be about 2000 or more likely 2100, depending on the tire. 700c, from what I understand, is supposed to be the rough diameter of the wheel with a mounted tire.

Yea mine defaulted to 2090 but the auto cal kicked out 2054 when I went around the block so I switched it off auto and put that in for the manual number.

Do a roll out to get your real number. It will vary depending on the tire, the tire pressure and the rider so everyone could be different. Pump your tire to riding pressure, and put the rear wheel with the valve stem down...mark a chalk line (or pc of tape or something) on the floor there. With your weight on the bike (in the saddle) move forward until the stem is down again and mark that spot. Now measure the distance between the two spots and that is your tire circumference.

There have been several posters mentioning delays/problems with the heart monitor. Just a tip - put a couple drops of water on the back of the unit and your skin behind the unit. My heart monitor never has had any delay readings or dropouts.

If you don't put the water on, then it will start reporting once perspiration builds up enough for it to work right. Learned this with the forerunner 301 I also have.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. It worked. I am fairly impressed with the software, but lack of a real help file is a bit bothersome. Mind you the interface is reasonably intuitive.

Don't use water; it is a poor conductor. Better is to use spit or a commecial ECG gel (available in most stores that sell HRMs). Water will only work if your skin is dirty.

LOL water has always worked and my skin isn't dirty. Was also recommended on here by a forum member when I was questioning the operation of the HRM on the 301.

Maybe my water is 'dirty' and I'm just lucky that way. Saves me from buying some gel or spitting on myself.

well I am gonna post this in the forsale forum also, but since a lot of people come to this thread looking to find where to get the bundle...

I made a mistake buying this... I put in my preorder over a month ago, then sent two cancellation emails (to planetgps.com) but apparently they never got them and sent it anyways... figured great, I'll keep it... but the more I think about it... I just don't need a computer like this for as much as I ride. I'm not even sure that I'm going to be able to do long rides anymore if I don't figure out my knee problems that came up at the end of last season.

SO.. if anyone wants one soon... mine arrives tomorrow... HR unit with Cadence added on... I'll sell it for $310 shipped (which is exactly what I paid + shipping)... if you buy it any time Tuesday (and pay via paypal with a bank account so I don't get charged a fee) I will ship it USPS Priority on Wednesday and you'll have it by Saturday (at the latest!) I'll open the box to be sure the HR unit and cad sensor are both there but I won't open the packaging... it'll be just like you bought it from an online retailer, only I guarantee you'll have it by Saturday.

Just let me know. damnrock@hotmail.com

I'm DamnRock on ebay, 315 100% + feedback.

Sorry if this is the wrong place but I think it is somewhat pertinent to the topic.

ooook, guess I'm NOT going to post it in the forsale area as I'm not cool enough to do that yet. Figured this is the best way to get ti sold fast and for someone who is maybe still on backorder to get one by this weekend.

Actually you have to have the little star next to your name to post a for sale ad. Anyone can get it for a bit of $$$. I found it was worth the $20-$30 or whatever it was.

I ordered the Edge 305 from chumbo.com last night. $300 including cadence and HR + $7 for 2 day shipping. They sent me a FedEx tracking number for delivery on Thursday. Unfortunately, their web site says they are sold out today, but you can have them e-mail you when it is back in stock.

Does the 305 need to be downloaded after each ride, or can it accumulate several rides and all downloaded together?

My unit should be here today from planetgps. I got it during the 100 dollar off promotion, when I saw they had 305s with hr monitors in stock I had them swap my order from a 305 w/cad to the hr monitor and swap my hr monitor order with a cadence sensor. Worked perfect, they replied within an hour of my emailing them.

To me, that says a ton about the quality of support. Yeah I know, simple changing an order but to actually do it right AND respond to an email and just say "Ok". Thats good stuff.

I finally cancelled my order with TigerGPS.com. They are a bunch of liars. They kept telling me that it would be shipped the next day when they didn't have one in stock. They charged my credit card over a month ago when their policy clearly states that it would not be charged untill the unit was shipped. The customer service is useless because you can't believe what they tell you. The only good thing was that I got my credit on my card in one day. I then bought the 305 bundle on Ebay for $80 less with shipping.

I've had my Edge for about a month now, got the HR version since the bundle was backordered then. I ordered the Speed/CAD sensors earlier this week and they showed up today. I remembered your issues with your Roubaix so I looked here before even attempting the install.

First off, that magnet is a monster. I have the tiniest sliver of a magnet for my wireless Flight Deck unit (first pic below) and I think Iíll try to hunt one of those down tomorrow and see if it will work. In the meantime, I decided to try locating the spoke magnet so it comes up just behind the sensor instead of passing across it (second pic below). It worked so I was able to install the sensor with the arm down the way it comes.

Iím not sure how crazy I am about the Speed/Cad sensor. Iím certainly not crazy about how it looks. I have the Flight Deck on one of my bikes and so far it and the Edge have matched up really well on speed and distance without the sensor. I havenít had satellite reception problems, I donít use an indoor trainer and Iím not that into cadence, I usually train based on heart rate. I bought two of the sensors since I have three bikes but Iím not sure Iíll even install it on the other bike I had planned to. It might be up for sale here soon. Weíll see after I get some time on the Roubaix with this one.
