My Garmin Edge 305 Bundle Shipping Tomorrow

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Edge 305 is going to be like the Xbox 360 of bike computers. High price + low availability will lead to a bonanza of threads by Edge owners letting everyone know they have one. Errr, or in this case that they almost have one.

(Ahem, yes I do have the Xbox 360, wo0t!)

I probably will not do a full test of the unit until my Jan 21 & 22 weekend rides.. This will allow me to test it under my normal riding conditions... Once I do, I will let you know

I just received my Forerunner 301 and will test it out during the StageCoach century... Will let you know how it works... Too bad you will be in NYC...

Later,

Mine shows the same status and with Overnight delivery, I'm hoping to have it by tomorrow. If I do, I will have it on and broken in with a 40 mile ride within hours.

It will be nice to get rid of some of this clutter.

Will the Edge be able to replace the functions of all three of those? That would be nice...

Call me a gadget geek. Do I really need them? No. With the exception of the HRM, the others are simply for recording data.

For the most part, it should, especially if he got the bundled HR/CAD model, but I am not sure if the same level of mapping will be possible (or even necessary), such as POI's and street level detail, with the 305 vs. 60CS. Indeed, I am not sure if Mapsource/City Navigatory/etc. even works with the Edge directly, as opposed to with the Training Center software which can be used with the mapping software after downloading to the PC from the Edge. If not, he could always spend MORE money and get the new replacement for the 60CS, the 60CSx! . Seriously though, I am awaiting my 305 bundle as well - if only I could hook it up to my Mac sooner rather than waiting on the Mac software ports from Garmin to come out . See my other thread about that and the new Mac version of Google Earth.

YES! Please let us know when it ships. REI won't have them until the 13th of FEB, so it'd be nice to have an alternate store to get it from.

You can call us at 800-426-4840 and we can put it on backorder for you. Item #737840 $399. The expected ship date is Feb. 13th.

Best wishes for great outdoor adventures.

Hmm I just got this reply back from MegaGPS.com

We are looking at next week to begin shipping these units. Usually, garmin makes all their initial shipments at one. I wonder how they received some early…
I wonder if Tiger is special or full of it.

Maybe Tiger is... but what would the use be for changing the status of my order that I placed a month and a half ago... Either way I won't be getting until next week... Maybe they are trying it to drum up some more business????

That photo is classic. The weenie cockpit of all time. But that Garmin unit looks cool. But FAR too big for me. The only thing I want on my handlebars is a small bike computer, the occasional HR monitor and some duct tape.

But that being said I'm a techno weenie too : ). So tell us how it actually WORKS...

So for those soon-to-be-owners, where have you found the best price for the Bundle?

But if REI is going to stock it (or will order it), then I think I know where I'll be using my dividend+20% discount...

I would think REI would sooner rather than later. I would find it odd that they would stock (and ship) any version of the Edge a full month after other vendors. But, like most other folks awaiting this unit, who really knows.

The site that I ended up ordering mine from said they got some Edge 205's in last week and expect the Edge 305's possibly next week.

I got the HR/CAD Bundle for $299 + $20 for shipping.

For the 305 bundle? The lease expensive I had seen thus far was $399.00 or so for that bundle? Otherwise, I will be kicking myself!

I'm used posting on an A/V forum and they don't allow such posts because of site sponsors. So not not knowing the rules here, I'd rather be safe than get in trouble.

I ordered mine from megagps.com Their price is $399.99 including free overnight shipping for the bundle. Tigergps.com also has it for $399.99 but they aren't offering free shipping. I haven't seen a price better than those for the bundle.
