Carbon fiber safety
Hi,
I am new to the forums and have a question about my bikes structural integrity. Background: I have a LOOK KG 361 and recently while out on a short ride the chain popped of of the chainring and rubbed up against the carbon fiber.
I immediately stopped and remounted the chain. The chain made some scraches and a indentation no larger than a millimeter near the chainstay. Do you think that this small indentation near the chainstay has made the frame unsafe?

post a pic.
chances are that it is fine. unless the fibers themselves are ripped, you generally dont have to worry about it.

Don't Bug Me
I doubt that it has done anything to damage the frame. Most Look's are finished with a high gloss, sprayed on finish, and you have probaly just put a "ding" in that gloss coat. I would not worry about it at all, that Look frame can take a whole lot more abouse that just a loose chain hitting it.

I have a 1/8" deep gouge in the right chainstay of my carbon mountain bike, complete with threads sticking out. It's been like that for 3-4 years, and I'm a pretty heavy rider.
Me thinks you're ok. Besides, if it did miraculously fail, the remaining chainstay + the seatstays are more than enough to get you back home. I've ridden a carbon bike with BOTH chainstays broken, and the seatstays were enough to get me home.
