this is obviously a DS by the stamp SD 124 below on the shell, but I didn't know he ever use the wing type brake bridge, only the straight bar! interesting, I thought that was a bilato bros thing. you learn something new everyday!

Threadless to threaded adapter. I did have to trim the steerer for a cleaner look because it came stock with a long steerer and an inch tall spacer between the locknuts.

Just scored this one. I’m stoked!
I’m on the shorter side, and used Lemond’s are rare in this area. Bike is a great fit, very nice shape. It was the guys back up bike and was rarely ridden. Retiring next month, want to get more in the club riding again. This should be a good vehicle for it. Anybody out there tried putting 28’s on one?

what 28’s you running? They vary from true size. I like the idea! I’m ok even if I have to put the wheels on, then inflate. Thanks, Bill

Don't hate on them, but I'm running Gatorskins at 68 psi front and 70 rear. They ride very well at those pressures. I weigh about 185.
I should add that I finally cracked my rear Rolf wheel and replaced them with a set of Easton RL90 rims lased to a pair of 105 hubs from Colorado Cyclist, they're great!

gorillimo I have Hutchinson Fusion 5 all season tires, latex tubes, mounted on Zonda C17 rim, QR on my 2003 Tourmalet. There is plenty of clearance for them, but I do not think I would be comfortable with anything wider. The tires ride very nice, good puncture protection and durability. Unfortunately, the price of them has gone up a lot.

I run Gravelking slicks in 28mm on an '01 Maillot Jaune and an '02 Victoire. The tires run about 27mm mounted on HPlus Son Archtypes. The Victoire is a tighter fit, but it works.

On the Poprads..38mm GK slicks..fast cushy ride.

Worked hard, fast and late yesterday. Felt pretty low key this am. Even after 2 cups of french press! Got out my new Lemond and worked on making it fit me. New 28c Michelin tires.They fit great. Much better then the worn out 23c's. Dug a shorter, better angled and looking stem outta the parts box. Redid the bar tape. Added my favorite saddle. New, favorite pedals. Cleaned it all up. Starting to like this one!

Here is my 2002 Alpe D'Huez, I bought it new. The headtube to toptube weld cracked, so she's no longer in use, but I miss riding it a lot. I've been using my gravel bike with road wheels and while its fast, its just not a tight wheelbase'd steel road bike.

this '05/06 spine is going to be rebuilt in ultegra 11speed in the next month, the 6700 on my steel '05 sarthe now, the wheels long gone on another sale. this one will also have HED ardennes plus and a new drop bar as well. truly my favorite ride of all of them, that include an '01 lemond maillot jaune and bridgestone xo-1. these spine frames are amazing.

Yes, the 02 was probably the nicest paint job and in the last years of the all 853 select and pro frames before they went to the spine and ox plat tubing (*04/05 or so) --------- which was just as nice, but not as well respected.

Another 2002, my Poprad. I had a 2003, 55 cm, that was posted in this thread. It was too big for me, saw a post in different forum from a fellow that acquired the 2002, 52 cm, that was too small for him. I contacted him and we worked out an even up swap, meeting halfway between us to do the trade. The 2002 was 8 speed Sora, the 2003 9 speed Sora. I switched the Sora to a 6500 group that I had, but used a Tiagra 4650 crankset.

The picture below has new Novatec 30 wheels. I wanted wider wheels, but did not want to spend a lot of money. Got these on clearance, plus a code for 15% off, heck of a nice set of wheels for the cost, 25mm exterior and 20mm interior. I also replaced the worn out Avid shorty 4 canti's with Tektro long reach rim brake calipers, a Soma Tall Stack stem and Zipp 80SLR handlebar.

The bike is in very good shape and appears to have had low mileage. Outstanding ride and versatile. I have brown wall 32mm GK semi-slicks but have not mounted them yet.

My 2001 Tourmalet with ice grey 6600, but 4600 brifters and 6750 crankset. This bike was a mess when I acquired it. I stripped it and had it powder coated, Pumpkin Orange. Found a really nice partial ice grey 6600 and finished it off with 4600 brifters and 6750 crankset. At the same time I switched to threadless fork and stem. The fork was generously sold to me by Spaghetti Legs.

Just tossing this on here after an '07 triple AD'H fell into my possession this week. By some stroke of luck it was my size, 59cm. It rides at-size for me, the previous owner must've had my crazy long limbs. Has a couple of paint chips here and there to touch up, but no cracks, creaks, or weirdness when riding, solid as a rock. Factory tires, factory tape, guess it wasn't ridden much?

I was expecting it to be squirrely-tweakey responsive ala crit bike based on what I've read about this era of Lemond, but the ride is surprisingly pleasant. No lag in power transfer at all, you push and it goes, pronto. I'd thought about tuning it up and reselling for a small gain, but when my 4-block test ride turned into 4 miles of smiles, I think I might need to investigate this one a little more! :lol:

Surprised this alu-carbon frame was near-base for the year. Doesn't ride like it at all.

Nice clean Alpe D'Huez! The tires aren't quite factory, these are the Bontrager R2s, the factory tire was the Bontrager Race Lite, with a gray tread. (Page 8 of the catalog, I can't post hyperlinks, but the url is ia600304.us.archive.org/20/items/LemondBicycles2007Catalog/_2007Lemond.pdf.)

I never heard that about the handling of that era of Lemond. I have an '06 Tourmalet and find the handling to be perfectly fine, not noticeably twitchy at all, certainly not like some of the early '10s Treks I've ridden. Though a bit of googling and it looks like the accusation of twitchy handling starts with the '07s, and my '06 is the newest Lemond I've ridden. Indeed, one of the stated principles of Greg's design philosophy is good calm-handling geometry, so I'm surprised to hear it.

Anyways, I've been meaning to throw photos of my couple of Lemonds up on here, will put it on my to-do list. And once my long-lost great uncle leaves me a million dollar inheritance, I'll even throw some photos up of my brand new Lemond 8, too. Or, more realistically, as I acquire more used old ones to add to my nascent collection.
