Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bike Around Lake Geneva??

Hi all:

Has anyone biked around Lake Geneva in Switzerland? If so, what is the distance of the ride and where is a decent place to rent a road bike in Geneva? I used to live there during my high school days (I was not into cycling back then) and recently went back to visit a couple of times. I saw a few cyclists and someone said it is about 100 miles all the way around. Seems like a nice way to do a century (very scenic). The roads seem nice and there seemed to be a bike path (especially the stretch from Vevey to Geneva).

I may do just that when I visit again.

I was there for a couple of weeks in early January. I ate like crazy and desperately need to get back on the bike to burn off the extra flab - all those paninis and cheese fondues! Unfortunately, it's still cold here in Minnesota and I have not yet set up my trainer.

Alas, I thought from the post title that you were talking about Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Had you been, I could tell you all about my ride on Highway H into Geneva!

When will you be in Geneva again ?
Time/family permitting, I may join you for that ride if you're up for it ... (or you can just come to Zurich, and cycle around our lake - 60km circumference - and not worry about crossing borders etc .... ) ... then can break off and do some solid hillwork too, and look out over the lake you conquered.
