Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I will be departing Oregon at the end of March and making my run for the border, down to New Mexico. Are there any roadies from Albuquerque who can give me the 411 on some good places to ride down there? Any feedback would be appreciated. I keep hearing that the Southeast quadrant is the war zone and not a safe place but what about the other parts of the city?

Hey Shooter, while those guys were out riding, I found this list of rides with maps. Hope you enjoy the DRY climate.

I like the Bosque path along the river. No cars - bosque/river scenery. Start at Alameda and the Rio Grande River - go south about 17 miles and return.

Hi. Grew up in Portland, went to school in Oregon, and accepted an intership in college in Albuquerque (actually Rio Rancho, a satelite) w/o even knowing with certainty where the heck Albuquerque was (remember racing off to the college library to look it up, all the while the bugs bunny 'wrong turn in Albuquerque' thing playing through my head).

It's a pretty cool place. 12 years later I'm addicted to the food and everytime I go back to the wet NW I renew my commitment to the SW.

My favorites -- the Bosque trail as someone mentioned along the Rio Grande, and the Tramway-La Luz (along the Sandia foothills)-Bosque loop. Lots of good riding in Placitas and Santa Fe too. Here's some more:

Good luck.

If you're looking for good Mexican food while your there, drive 40 miles north to Cuba and eat at El Brunos...that is some good *hit. Best Mexican food I've ever had and I grew up in New Mexico.
