Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Where to find compressor plugs?

I bought a Cane Creek IS-2 headset and realized that it didn't come with a compression plug for my carbon fork, which seems kind of dumb to me since 90% of the bikes out there now has carbon forks with carbon steerer tubes. Anyways, where can I find a compression plug? The only ones I can seem to find are the crappy ones from Profile or the one-piece ones from FSA, I still wanna use my Cane Creek top cap, would look silly to have an FSA top cap on a Cane Creek headset even though they're basically the same thing. Any help would be much appreciated.

Here you go: https://cgi.ebay.com/FSA-Alloy-Compre...QQcmdZViewItem

As to the "look". I have FSA compressor plugs in use with a variety of headsets, and it looks just fine. Unless you buy a fork that comes with its own branded compressor plug, you really don't have much of a choice.

Yes, you can't use a star nut with a carbon fiber steer tube.

Ok so I am on my first compressor/CF Steerer so excuse my ignorance here...can't you just take the bolt the whole way out and swap the top cap?

Yes, you can use a compressor plug with other steerer materials. The main reason you have to use a compressor plug for carbon steerers is that you risk cracking the steerer tube with the thin star nut.

+1 on the FSA compressor plug. I have the Reynolds, the FSA, and Easton's compressor plug and the FSA works the best. Even though the Easton plug came with my EC90-SLX fork, the design is so poor I trashed it in favor of the FSA.

Cheers! - RJ

BTW- on my training bike my FSA top cap sits on top of my Cane Creek head set and looks just fine . I wouldn't worry about it DRLski... but that's just me.
