I have a Rolf Vector rear wheel (that came with my Trek 7500FX Hybrid) with 135 mm spacing and am wondering if it can be used in my Lemond Sarthe rear drop outs which measure 133mm (and are intended for 130mm hub). I have an old tire on the Rolf wheel and I'd like to use it on my trainer. As spring approaches I'd like to swap rear wheels depending on wheither the roads are dry outside or use the trainer when the weather/roads are wet. I don't want to use a good tire on the trainer because I think it's a good way to wreck the tire (if I can smell hot rubber, it's gotta be bad for it) and changing tires whenever you want to go for a real ride is work. Let's ignore the issue of cassette compatability for now (I have a spare 10-speed cassette). The Sarthe has a steel frame so bending the rear stays out a few mm might(?) not hurt it, especially given that it flexes that much when I'm riding it anyway. The Rolf rim (700C) is a tiny bit narrower than the Bontrager race lites I have on the Lemond and the tire fits past the brake blocks ok.

It use to be common to squeaze 130mm wheels into 126mm steel frames. Unless the Lemond is extremely fragile, I don't think you will have a problem other than possibly needing adjust your rear deraileur.

Several of Surly's frames (which are all steel) use what they call "Gnot-Rite" spacing of 132.5mm in the rear dropouts, which they advertise as allowing you to use either 130 or 135mm hubs. Sounds like you've got a similar situation there, which is to say it would probably fit with no ill effects.
