I'm not looking to spend $400+ to replace my old 52/39 Record for a Record or Chorus compact set.
But the Centaur 50/34 is reasonably priced, can probably use my existing Record B/B, and may even work with my Record FD if I can figure out a way to lower it (braze-on)
Or should I be looking at an aftermarket Crank/BB set all together..?

The Record BB is compatible with Chorus and visa verse, the Centaur is compatible with Veloce and visa verse. In the Zinn article that I referenced earlier he mentioned that some braze on frnt dr will not drop enough to work with a compact set up. He seemed to infer that it is hit or miss.

I got my cranks and BB for $170 and have seen ct FD on eBay for $30. It was going to cost me as much to go with the FSA Gossamer/Energy with MegaExo BB as the Campy setup did. Now I have all Campy though!

Another important question.....will there be any problems running an 8 speed chain on these newer compact cranksets?

Excel Sports has alloy Centaur CT cranksets for $120 + shipping. Good deal there. :)

Yup, I love it. I noticed that the other Orbeas they didn't sell, they didn't end up putting back up. I'd like to think it was because I got such a good deal. :D

Yep that's where I got mine $119.95, although the price they had on the BB was among the highest! The total and shipping made it a Great deal though! You can also use comparisonpricing.com as a source for pricing Campy.

Thad I am sure there was some reason they didn't sell the others, I know I ran out of time before I could pull the trigger and then was able to find what I had been looking for all along. Plus you got the one I would have wanted, just wrong size!
