tried my first race today
45 mile race, cat5 - kicked my ass pretty good. Lot of fun though and i met many cool people. Figure I hung with the group halfway up the mtn before i just couldnt match the speed. Then i just dug in and started climbing at my own pace. Was able to pass a few people on the way up that were dropped also.
Downhill was fast with some tight turns - dropped my chain and had to pull over which sucked. Blew my legs up proper trying not to get dropped which had my legs beginning to cramp a bit after i got to the top and started to descend.
Back of my legs are good and sore. Wife was nice enough to give me a rubdown with some menthol rub which helped - that and a cold beer.
Gotta say crossing the finish line and having people urge you on felt GREAT. Gotta work on the hills but im gonna mess around and try a few more of these. I do believe I was the only guy i saw there with 0 ads on his clothes
Had two objectives - dont crash and dont come in last, today was a good day.

Congrats!
It's a good start. No matter what, stay safe, you'll soon improve your game, learn to ride with the right bunch and avoid crashes. Nothing destroys racing desire like a few bad crashes.
Good luck!

Good job, now that you've got the firt one over, you know what to expect and what to improve on
I'm with you, a noncomfomist! My first race was last week. I wore a long sleeve workout shirt, generic shorts, and *gasp* had a visor on my helmet I stuck out like a sore thumb It was a little intimidating seeing everyone in team kits with expensive bikes, spare wheels better than my only wheels.....in th elong run, it don't mean shizzle though
Let us know how your next one goes.
