New Cervelos?
I have been thinking about picking up a Team Soloist for a while. Went to my LBS, they informed me that Cervelo most likely isn't making aluminum bikes this year. Has anyone heard about this? I went to their site and nothing has changed. Also, according to the LBS Cervelo hasn't even sent out their 06 catalog yet.

A manufacturer doesn't just stop making frames of a certain material for "awhile".
They shipped the 05 catalogue in March of last year.

Cervelo has dropped materials in the past. The '05 line up did not have the sweet steel Prodigy, which had been available in '04. No more Cervelo steel.
Their aluminum offerings go beyond just the Soloist, so I would not expect they to drop the material altogether any time soon.

Its really neat what Cervelo is doing with their race bikes. With that kind of technology design, its just a matter of time as to what trickles down to other product lines. Companies are always planning for the future and positioning themselves in terms of market share and profits. I don't know how much money CSC (Computer Science Corp) has given them to make the designs for the TdF. But I was told that all the team members of CSC are on the CSC payroll. Also CSC donates to the TdF directly because CSC is a big player in outsourcing in Europe.

They already have personnel in Asia doing quality control on their carbon fiber, so why not continue with CF in a traditional road frame? If riders are willing to pay up to 4 grand on a bike, its up with the high end already.

I can understand why the LBS lied to this guy- the biggest complaint about Cervelo from shops is that they never get enough bikes, and some dealers are preffered. Cervelo is still a privately owned smallish company, they can't keep up with demand.
Whoever bought that soloist for $960 got a bargain.

I thought the R2.5 was the successor to the Prodigy/Super Prodigy line?

The R2.5 has a sloping top tube like the soloist. I would think that the successor to a Prodigy would have the traditional frame geometry.
