Motobecane Le Champion SL Arrives Today

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Motobecane Le Champion SL Arrives Today

I just got off the phone with the UPS hub in town and I will be picking up my new bike today. I ordered a Motobecane Le Champion SL today. Shimano Ultegra, FSA carbon crank, AC 420 wheels, and Ritchey WCS bar, stem, and seatpost. I already havea Trek Madone that I've put quite a few miles on and was looking for an inexpensive winter bike when I came across the Motobecane. I know it doesn't necessarily qualify as inexpensive, it will serve a valuable purpose. I will use it for some of the hilly rides in this area and probably use it as my crit bike as well. Then next winter when we order team frames I will swap everything to a new custom steel team Waterford. I have read all the threads about bikesdirect and the Motobecane and am interest how this will all unfold. I ordered the bike a month ago and was told delivery would be the first week or two of February. So far, so good. When I get the bike home I will put it together and hopefully take the initial test ride. After that I will try to get some pictures on this thread. I have had a tough time with that in the past though. I'll even try to get some pics of my Madone and cross bike as well. The cross fike I built up with the help of a friend and just got it done last week. It's a Ridley Crossbow and is pretty sweet. I'll keep you posted about this later. Back to work I go . . . or maybe I should just take the afternoon off . . . .

Nice, sounds like a good plan to me. I rode an SL when I first started looking at bikes (7 months ago), didn't buy it do to issues I had with the retailer (poorly ran store) but thought it was nice at the time. I'd be interested to hear a ride report from a crit racers perspective.

From what I've heard you want to buy one size down in a TT bike from your road bike fit. Of course its probably best to be custom fit if possible.....

I just got two more emails today about the Le Champion SL I ordered for my daughter on Sunday morning. One from a CSR named Lindsay thanking me for the order and including a UPS tracking number and another from UPS with the same tracking number.

I want to see those pictures also, and you better have some fun on that Moto.

I love mine! But I have the 350 wheels. Are you planning on swapping yours out or keeping them?

Here are the pictures of the recently arrived Motobecane. I didn't have a chance to take it for a spin yet because I am still doing some fine tuning. I also need to get some pedals for it too. I will most likely buy some Ultegra off Ebay. The bike is definitley light. No problems yet with it and it doesn't look like I will have any. I am also including a couple of pics of my cross bike just for fun. It's a Ridley Crossbow I got off ebay and built up with some parts I had laying around. And no, I won't flip the stem because it's set up for cross racing and not road riding. Anyway, hope the pics turn out okay and I will post a ride report in a day or two. I also plan on putting red bar tape on the Motobecane as well. If I did have one complaint it would be on the wrap job they did on the bars. But that's just being picky. Now off I go to grade some papers . . . fun stuff!

Nice bike my friend and you're really going to enjoy those Am. Classic CR420s. I have had a set for a few months now and they're really nice wheels. Given what the wheels retail for, not to mention the other parts, you got a real good buy.

Ron,

Great looking bike, can't wait to see my daughter's, it should be here Thursday. What size is that frame? And did it come with black bar tape or red?

That's such a great looking bike.
The parts are worth more than the price! If I had any money and didn't need a laptop I'd get one.

that was fast! and good work! looks terrific! what fun, eh?

if you are shopping for ultegra pedals, check out bellatisport.com - i got a pair there for $86 which at the time was the best price i could find.... it's a swiss web site, and you need to register (free and easy) in order to see the discounted prices... also, you need to click your currency (USD).... have bought several items there at great prices, and shipping has always been relatively quick (from switzerland): got the goods 5-8 days after ordering via usps registered mail...

edit: the ridley is sharp!

It's a 52 cm. Stem is 10 cm with 42cm bars. Black tape came on the bars but I will be swapping it out for red. Their tape job was horrible . . . my only complaint. By the way, after I got the email from Lyndsey about the bike being shipped it still took 8 or 9 days. Thought I would give you the heads up. They will also get you a UPS tracking number so you can check the progress. Hope everything goes as smoothly for you as it did for me. Tell your daughter to enjoy the bike! Thanks for the compliments! ROn
