I've heard lots of great things about both. But never seen a head to head plus and minus of them.

Performance has the"

- Alchera for $40.00 (normal 84.99) in the Blue/Lt. Blue/White combo in my size.

- Furio for 59.99 and my color choice would be the White/Silver for the best cooling. :)

One bike is blue with white bar tape. Other bike is white with some blue.

Difficulty #1: I live in Texas :D

Difficulty #2: Current Helmet: $17 Bell from Wally World!

/yes I know the helmet thing has been beaten to death.

rzims 02-06-06 03:32 PM

I bought the Alchera that looks like carbon and it's one of the most comfortable helmets I've had.
Plus you just can't beat the price

Obligatory "I don't have either one of those, but I have _______ and it rocks!!!" post.

acathi_cyclist 02-06-06 03:37 PM

I too have the Alchera. It's a decent helmet but I find it to be a bit bulky. Good helmet for the money.

Sorry to hijack the thread but....

If you found NOS Specialized S1 helmet with slight discoloration (very slight) for $60, would you buy it? How about if you had no need for a new helmet aside from asthetic reasons?

BeeTL 02-06-06 03:53 PM

I own the Furio, but I got it on sale for close to $40 or so....

It fits my head perfectly, but I'd expect the same from the Alchera since it has the GPS fit system as well.

Pick the one that looks better to you, or get the Alchera because it's cheaper.

Performance is selling the $100 05 Ghiasallo for $75. I have it and like it.

iamtim 02-06-06 03:53 PM

Furio wearer here. I prefer it to the Giro something-or-other that I lost in my accident in December. Never worn the Alchera, so I can't give a good comparison.

All I can say is that the Furio is a nice lid.

simplyred 02-06-06 03:57 PM

Alchera looks more ventilatious...

Just got the Bell Ghiasallo as well. Feels real comfy (coming from a $25 Bell that is way too big for me). I'll give an update after a few rides.

Cromulent 02-06-06 04:19 PM

I have the Furio (in white and silver). Fits great, and is plenty ventilatious.

CardiacKid 02-06-06 04:53 PM

My 2 criteria are always fit first, then price. If both are equal in those 2 categories, I look at ventilation, followed by color and style. If the Furio is more comfortable, $10 extra isn't too much to pay. I suspect that they will have the identical fit, so I would go with the Alchera. If you are going retro, I don't think the style is that big of a deal. You want people looking at your Gazelle, not your helmet.

mtn_mojo 02-06-06 04:54 PM

I love my Alchera, and like I said in the other thread I have the blue/blue/white. Doesn't look like there's a huge difference between those two helmets, though. They probably fit identically, so pick whatever has the color scheme you like best. If you get a chance, go to an LBS that carries both and try them on.

Talewinds 02-06-06 05:20 PM

A friend of mine wears an Alchera, she has a narrow face and that helmet does NOT look like a mushroom at all. I think that halmet fits the most compact of any I've seen. I just sold a brand new Atmos because it looked like it was twice as wide as my narrow head! And because it hit the top of my bean all wrong and hurt.
For my $$$ I'd buy that Alchera ANYDAY.

Paul L. 02-06-06 05:30 PM

My last helmet was a Furio and my present helmet is an Alchera. After a year of commuting in the Arizona Desert sun the yellow plastic was fading and starting to come off the foam. It was a good helmet but I finally ditched it when I saw a crack developing in the back after a spill on a mtn bike where I cracked a rib and pulled aligament in my shoulder blade. It was a nice cool helmet that fit nice on my large head.
Now for the Alchera, I really like the Alchera, it is cooler than the furio. Of course in winter that is not as desirable but come summer it will be real nice. The fit is just as good as the furio and I laugh at my shadow as the vents are big enough to let me see right through the helmet in the shadow.

The only thing I wish both helmets had was no exposed outside foam as being a commuter my helmets tend to get dinged up a bit on the exposed foam. Unfortunately there really aren't any affordable helmets that have this.

HJR 02-06-06 05:44 PM

I have the Alchera. Nice helmet. Good ventilation. Nice looking. Great buy for $40.

'nother 02-06-06 05:56 PM

I have the Furio but it definitely looks like the Alchera wins on ventilaciousness both in pictures and from Paul L. and HJR's testimony. So I may be picking one of those up for summer use, as well as for the purpose of matching my new bike that I don't have yet :) $40 is pretty good for the Alchera. I got my Furio for about $49 I think.

cuda2k 02-06-06 05:57 PM

Thanks for all the feedback, esp from those who have used both. I'm going with the Alchera. Over all I like the look a tad better and I do like the huge air vents. Hopefully this thread will provide answers for future members in their search. :)

Silver Litz 02-06-06 07:20 PM

I have the Alchera and I like it. It is much cooler than my prior helmet.

2Rodies 02-06-06 07:27 PM

I've got a Bell Sweep and really like it (I know the Sweep isn't in question here I'm just chimin' on on the quality of Bell helmets). Prior to that I had a Giro Pneumo (sp) and I find the Bell to be just as well made and slightly quieter.

Lucky07 02-06-06 09:58 PM

I have & like the Furio. I tried the Alchera & it felt identical to my Furio. Both decent lids. I'm not sure that helps... :D

I have the same helmet, and I like it a lot too. But I have a "Bell head", so most Bells fit me. It does have nice large vents though, and I find it pretty comfy.

Cadd 02-06-06 10:20 PM

I think I have a "Bell" head too. I tried several Giros, but they didn't fit my head well....it actually hurts the top of my head (I guess I have a cone head). But Bells are pretty comfy when I tried them on.

cyclezen 02-06-06 10:54 PM

no freekin visors? what is this crappage!

56/12 and 22/28 02-07-06 06:21 AM

Get a Louis Garneau ORO T-Bone.

It looks much better. :D

+1. I love the rear adjustment wheel in the back of the Ghiasallo. If either of the two helmets that you're interested in have that option, I'd go for it.
