Who would have thought???

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Who would have thought???

Snow, ice, cold, freezing rain, etc. ....... but who would have thought volcanos would have been added to the challenge??

http://www.susitna100.com/

Announcement: Due to recent eruptions of St. Augustine volcano, located about 200 miles southwest of the race course, we have an additional item of required equipment for the 100 mile race. Please carry with you 2 dust masks, for use at your discretion, should the volcano happen to release ash during the race, and wind currents become such that it may drift north to the area of the race. These are very light weight masks, of the type available at hardware stores or pharmacies. For racers coming from outside southcentral Alaska, please do not wait until you arrive in Anchorage to purchase these. Stocks in the local stores are depleted.

The Susitna starts February 16th ... do you know anyone riding it this year?

Lava could be quite a challenge, even for your tough Rando tires. And the volcanic ash? Well, I hope you spray down your brakes often, and wear a respirator.
