At what $$ amount is Team Performance worth it?
There is a Performance store near my work and they usually have good deals on small items. I'm not in the market to spend hundreds of dollars in a year, though.
How much would I need to spend over the year to justify the $20 membership fee?

Well, you pretty much get 10% back off everything you buy from them, so if you plan on spending at least $200 in a year, it will have at least paid for itself. It's even better if you buy a bike. $1500 bike = $150.
So far this year I've gotten $50 in certificates. Makes me wonder where all my money is going.

Is this a trick question? $200 in spending earns you your $20 membership fee back. If you aren't going to spend over $200 in a year or aren't ever going to mail order anything (the 2nd day air is a big bonus as they process you shipment faster) then I would say it isn't worth it. Well there may be a chance an item is more than $20 less if you are a member but again that item is no doubt going to cost moe than $200 so it sort of defaults back to spending more than $200 in a year.
It should be noted that in the past there have been double points weekends so if you spend $100 on one of those weekends then you only need to spend >$100 in the year.

Do they actually give 10% off (cash back) or is it 10% you can spend on something else in the store?

Is the 10% discount applied to purchases immediately, or only when you earn enough points to get certificates?
The certificate route basically gets you back into the store to buy more, right (very crafty method)? All I need is to be tempted to keep going back to buy more!

If you have a Performance store near you, you can save shipping charges entirely by placing a "red phone" order in the store. I do this all the time, including when I have them price match plus I get the 10% back. I find the Team Performance program to be a very good deal based on what I spend and the other benefits mentioned above.

If you think you'll spend $200 in a years time, I'd go for it.

Yeah, it goes towards the next purchase. So if you are only going to order one big item, but don't plan to use them for anything else, it would be better to wait for a 10% coupon code.

At worst if you spend $200 it is "worth it". Chances are you will get a Team special price that will make you "break even" with less than $200 spent. The two day expedited shipping, in some sense also contributes to breaking even sooner (i.e. if you spend $200, getting $20 back, you're actually ahead because everything was shipped sooner).

Last year I think I spent about $400. At each purchase, I turned down the membership offer. Regrets.

I wanted to get it on my last order, but they wouldn't let me use a coupon with it in my order. So I didn't.

I had the same issue. They won't let you use coupons when one of your "items" is the team membership.

Ahh... so who was I kidding? I'm sure I'll end up getting a new pair of bibs or stock up on gels or whatever throughout the year. I got the membership when I bought my stuff today. I needed a new 10 speed cassette and they had the Ultegra on sale, so with that, a chain whip, and a cassette tool, I figured I'm going to be well on my way to $200.
Thanks everyone for your input.

If you like cycling and the Performance store has stuff you are lusting after, the membership is completely worth it. I made that twenty bucks back for the year the second time I went back. The coupons they send through the mail plus the % discounts save a considerable amount. I just got century tights with chamois for ten bucks thanks to a 10 off coupon and 20% off perf. brand tights coupon.

Plus the send out three to four ten dollar off coupons throughout the year. They are for in store purchases only and have nothing to do with your points earned. So if they have a store near you then you will get your money back in these coupons too. Later.

I didn't have to pay anything for membership. I bought a pair of Michelin tires at the local Performance store last July and took them on one 40 mile ride prior to a century ride the following week. Both tires had casing failures (split right along the seam) during that century; fellow riders loaned me spares so I could finish. I returned the tires to Performance the following day; the store manager gave me a deep discount on a pair of Continentals and threw in a Team P membership. So far I've recieved four $10 coupons, but I swear (if you're reading this honey) I haven't spent $400 there.

I had over 500 bucks in Performance points. I still have nearly 200 bucks left to spend.
Points accumulate. And they do the double points day enough times for me to rack up. I can save up until they have a double points weekend, then come in and go buck wild and buy all my stuff and get double the points. Good stuff, man. Good stuff.

like said 200...
you get "bucks" at 10 dol each...so if you spent 200...you'd get 2 performance bucks at 10 credit...
if you plan on a big upgrade...then it pays....if you live next to one then you get a great deal. They price match...so if they have it...go to qbike and look for it cheaper...then go in ...price match...red phone....no shiping and the best price plus the 10% back...hard to stop once you get started...I got a look kg281 for 200.00 dols out of pocket and the rest was paid for by bucks....I just happen to be the guy that friends and family call to upgrade thier bike and they let me do the shoping and the install and they give me the bucks...one order here and there added up...
