Orange lenses!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Orange lenses!

Who else likes riding with orange lenses, or has even tried them? On a dismal day they make the landscape more bearable, but even on a bright day, when everyone else is riding in dark lenses (actually, most people seem to use those in anything apart from actual night) I prefer orange to grey - they warm up the colours, increase contrast, bring out the subtleties in the clouds, deepen the sky ... and what they do with greens is amazing. Not for nothing do we have the saying about looking at the world through rose-tinted glasses. The only time I prefer grey lenses is in bright summer sun, when the world could do with cooling down a shade.

I love them. I have Oakely M-Frame Hybrid Persimmon lenses. I have found they work best when there is much overcast and cloud cover. The lenses almost make it seem as though it went from cloudy and dark to a clear summer day! I don't use them when its anything more, it just hurts my eyes.

Love them, they are more of an all around lens. I go for clear at night though.

I always use myamber/orange lenses (except at night - clear).. . no doubt they enhance contrast in low light/fog/ rain... and they don't murk things up (that's technical jargon) in bright light...

I like 'em - remember Blue Blockers sunglasses? I saw some at Walgreen's... Anyhow, the theory was that blue light tends to give the most glare. I believe it.

I use persimmon lenses on gray days and in low light. Love 'em, especially cause they look really cool .

I guess that's the poseur in me. I use the grays in med-light, and the shinys in high-light.

I ride with orange lenses almost exclusively during the day unless it's mid day and really bright. At night, I ride with yellow lens. They seem to work the best for me. I need to start looking for a larger pair though. The more I ride with groups and as the speeds increase, the more problems I'm having with road grime getting in my eyes.

I ride with orange lenses all the time. Granted, I only ride during the day, but whatever.

They match my bike. And, eh, my car -- heh -- for that matter.

Why yellow lenses at night?

In low light and overcast conditions, they definitely brighten and increase contrast. I have a pair of Nike Interchange Round that are pretty good....they stay put on my face and I have a pair of orange lenses and a pair of grey polarized lenses. Got them for $80. If you want non polarized, you can find them for like 40.

I use my orange lenses on my Native sunglasses most of the time, and really like them. I use the grey polarized lenses when the sun's glare is a problem, which it often is here in southern California. If the orange lenses were polarized, I'd probably use them all the time, except at night.

I like yellow during overcast days, but they get worse than clear once the sun is down.

I knew I was doomed on one ride when at 3 in the afternoon the clouds rolled in and it got really dark. Then I realized that I was wearing my amber Oakleys. I looked over the top of the lenses and almost had a heart attack at the darkness... the fat rain started shortly thereafter.

Yes, amber in overcast, lower light days, traditional dark lenses on sunny days.

I have the Interchange Square, been using them for years. I use the orange in the same conditions, when it is sunny I find the orange lenses to be just too bright.

Maybe I'm the only one, but orange lenses annoy the crap out of me. It just seems so unnatural and I can't keep them on. Even if it's a dreary day I can't wear them. After all, there's something beautiful about dreary days as well.

Another vote for amber almost all the time. On especially bright days I'll sometimes put in the grey ones or especially dark riding I'll put in the clear. Otherwise it's amber.

And man doesn't your lawn look great when you come back (until you take your glasses off anyway).

I use orange lenses most of the time.
MEC Expresso's with interchangable lenses. I commute 2 hours a day, and all winter its dark both ways.

For the summer rides I sometimes switch to a dark lens, but the orange work fine either way.

Oh and I gave up on the expensive crap years ago after spending thousands over the years on overpriced peices of plastic with a designer names.

I've used orange lenses in all conditions as long as I can remember.
My latest find is the Ryders R281 Quasar. They fit perfectly.

I use mine almost exclusively in my Smith's. For my Oakleys though, I have just the standard, run of the mill grey lenses.
