Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: Gary Fisher Marlin // Jamis Ventura Sport // GT Timberline

Got it yesterday
The wait SUCKED! Seemed to take forever to ship .. lol, and yes I did lose sleep.
But it's here now!!
My 05 Jamis Ventura Sport .. got it at store cost from a future in-law's store, and with the same component specs as the 06 Ventura Comp, it is a deal and a half. I'm excited!!

I was out riding all afternoon yesterday and well into the evening, breaking it in and getting a feel for the tiny wheelbase... so this pic was taken after dark, but hopefully better pics soon. 8-)
WOOHOOOO!!!!

Even prettier than in the pics .. the red is really vivid and pics just can't show that, plus the pics all show a different wheelset and the real set is really pretty.

Definitely a step up the ladder from my GT hardtail! I'm psyched!!!

The bike rides wonderfully. It hauls major @$$, and I can roll forever on just one spin of the pedals... I'm really happy with it, and I know it'll only get more fun as my bike and I get broken into each other.

I got to wrenching around a little bit today:

~ Put my own pedals on it, to which I am already accustomed.
~ Put my bottle cage on it and a minipump.
~ Flipped the seatpost reflector, cuz it was upside down when I got the bike.
~ Put my own seat on it .. I'm kind of a puss when it comes to saddle comfort.
~ Transferred cyclocomputer from old bike to new.
~ Got a little wedge bag and put it on as well. However free, it is very purple and very ugly, so I'll get a black one tomorrow. But at least I got a tube, CO2 cartridge, and multi-tool with it! lol, I love hookups.

And I have tomorrow off from work, so it's gonna get some miles! I'm excited!!

I may take the reflectors off, and I may not .. because I do ride at night sometimes. That will be decided in time, though.

Get one of those $8 (oops, $10 now) frame bags from Nashbar. Love 'em.

Huh, I guess Jamis does make some non-steel bikes. You got 2 pounds on me and paid half as much, but I prefer my Nova's black/black/gunmental stealth paintjob and offroad attitude. Anyhoo, welcome to the family.

For 2005, Jamis's road bikes just went by S-M-L-XL .. and this one is a Large.
I would guess it's around 58cm .. since 56 is what I've ridden on in the past, and it feels a little big to me but I hear it's better to have a bike slightly on the big side than slightly on the small side. This could be fixed with a shorter stem later on if I feel like it's bugging me.

... But yeah. It's a Large-size bike.

Congrats, I also look forward to pics in daylight. I also second the Nashbar frame bag, easier for wallets, cellphones, etc. But definitely lose the reflectors!! lol

That's what a lighting system is for, chief....and just throw some thin strips of reflective tape on the sides and back of your shoes if you want "reflectors".

Keep them on. Safety is more important than fashion. Those who get upset about having reflectors on bikes are fashion weenies anyhow.

Congrats man, great machine,I got my Raleigh about 3 weeks ago and just love it.I wouldn't trade it for a dozen mtn bikes (even though I do want a new one)It is so much easyer to ride a roadie than a mtn any distance I was amazed.
Looks great and I hope you two have a long and happy life together.

I just got my first road bike as well...a Fuji Team SL 54cm. What a difference riding a road bike! $500 later, I have all the gear that goes with road riding.

Congrats on your new bike!

Hey, we both like audio equipment, love Mahler (my favorite symphonic composer), and have a Jamis bike.

By the way, congrats and that IS a fine looking bike!!!

Absolutely. Hell, I'd keep the reflectors on JUST to piss off the team-kit lycra suited fashion weenies.

They are on sale now for $8.00, but I think that they will get in the way if you are loading the bike on a car frame riding rear bike rack. Just something to keep in mind, although you could mount the bag when the bike was unloaded.
