Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So I got my new CAAD8 replacement frame on Friday and the shop built her up for me. For those who aren't familiar with the my plight I drove my previous CAAD8 into my garage and broke the frame at the seat tube/top tube juncture. I was really in love with grey/nude paint on the old one but it's no longer available. My sponsor hooked my up (and I mean hooooooked me up) with a smokin deal on a new CAAD8 but it has to be in the Patriot Blue/Black Hyperfade color scheme. Well the pic in the catalog and on the C'dale website were pretty underwhelming but at the price I got it for I said OK. Well to my very pleasant surprise the color is freakin awesome. I don't think it translates well in these photo's but the bike is basically changing colors from different angles. I'm very happy with out come. Of course I had to include the obligatory shot with the kid I took it out for the maiden voyage and it was 31 degrees and raining. I spent over an hour cleaning the bike up after got home and thawed out!

Unlike a lot of bikes I see on this forum intended for racing, yours looks like a RACE bike. Just mean looking. Well done.

Thanks!

Next race is next Sunday Feb 26th. The C'dale rep was in the shop when I picked the bike up and this was the first one he'd seen in this paint scheme built up. He took some pix of it to show the guys back at the shop! After all the worry about what it would look like I'm pretty stoked about how it turned out.

Looks good... I really like the Stratus wheels a lot. Ever think about taking the decals off of them? I think it would look killer w/out decals, but it looks fine with the decals too. They also did great in this review:

May I ask what kind of bottle cages you have on there?

How do you like your FSA SL-K crank? I have a SL-K triple coming from aebike.com hopefully next week to replace the OEM TruVatiV Rouleur triple on my R1000.

Your rig is SICK. Unbelievably nice job. It looks fast just sitting there...

P.S. Nice pic of your daughter, too. She seems to like the C'dale as well.

So far so good. It's light and stiff, the Mego BB rolls nicely.

Thanks, it feels fast too, really snaps when I jump out of the saddle. Sydney (my daughter) has that grin permanently glued to her face...she's one happy kid!

For some reason the first time I opened this thread the pic of your daughter was the only one that didn't load. I was trying to figure out what the heck everyone was talking about! Cute kid!

Stunning bike! Nicely equipped as well. Now if Cannondale would only back down a little on slapping its logo on every square inch, more of that beautiful paint could be appreciated.

Your seat is crooked...

hehe

I was driving by 360 cycle works when the Cannondale truck was leaving and I ALMOST stopped by there to see what was up. I had all the kids and the wife with me and they were tired and grumpy so I erred on the conservative side.

That bike is gorgeous...

AND

You're a man for riding today. Although if the Cerve was together, I may have spun too...

No kidding! I'm really getting burned out on the over logo-ing of bikes these days. I think we get the point...it's a Cannondale!!!

Hey you've got no excuse now that you've got the cranks and bb! Today at 7:30 am the temp in my front yard is 29 degrees! Come on after where you've been deployed 29 degrees on a bike should be nothing! Hey man it was good meeting you and daughter last night, we need to organize an Austin BF ride soon. Post some pics of the Cerv when it's done!

I just ordered an R5000, but I went with the silver as I couldn' find any pictures of the blue other than in the Cdale catalog, and it didn't look so hot. But this looks very nice. Still, I hate those big Cannodale stickers and they stick out more on the blue, so I'm sticking with the "Oakland Raiders" silver and black one. I just noticed the fork is silver and black so maybe it'll be a better match overall.

One other thing I'm been trying to see is the amount of slope on the top tube with the new Cannondales. I am getting a 54cm too, but looking at your pix I see no slope. Then I realized you have the bike tilted to the front wheel. Is the slope pronounced over your older Cdale frame?

Nice bike. My LBS has that frameset for $500, but it is a 58 (I ride a 56). I've seriously have thought about ways to stretch myself out just to justify buying it. It truly is gorgeous in person.

I think the size 52cm and lower frames are all slightly sloping geometries, and the bigger ones are all standard/classic cannondale with the horizontal top tube. I have a 50cm, and its sloping, whereas my friends 58 is distinctly different.

The 54 has some slope to the top tube. Not enough to call it a 'compact' but there is a bit.

Wow $500.00 with a slice premium + fork? For an '06 that is pretty impressive deal as it would be less than the crash replacement price. Are you sure it's the same color because the C'dale rep told me on Friday that this color just shipped at the begining of last week.
