Yesterday's Weird Noise
I did a climbing ride yesterday after I watched the start and a portion of the Tour of California.
It's been cold in the Bay Area for the last couple of weeks after a week in the 70's. It snowed here on all the high spots a couple of days ago and you ought to know how rare that is.
Anyway, after doing about 2000 feet of climbing in 25 miles I was on the final climb before the slide down to home. I kept hearing a scratching sound and kept thinking that when I pushed on the left pedal the chain was rubbing.
I ended up getting off the bike and looking at everything and it turned out to be the rear brake pad on the left side was too close to the rim. Strange. A quick adjustment and I wasn't hearing a thing. Of course since I'm nearly deaf that doesn't mean it went away. Only that it wasn't loud enough for me to hear any more. But the one mile descent was enough to keep my mind off of it.
