Portland Area Roadies (Sat. 2/25)

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Portland Area Roadies (Sat. 2/25)

Hey all, forecast is looking decent for Saturday. Anyone planning (or looking for) a group ride?

I'll be out of town, but I would really like to do one the following weekend. 3/4 or 3/5 if weather permits...

Sounds nice but 9am doesn't leave enough of the day left. I am relatively new to the area, are there any groups that start at 7am? All the rides I have seen start at 9:00 or 10:00.

On solo rides or later in the summer, sure, I'll head out that early quite often. But 7am is pretty early to pull a whole group together in Feb. I haven't heard of much going on that early, but I'm still pretty new at this stuff.

I'm in Rad. Maybe we can spend a little time on Stafford and Mountian Roads out my way or ride west of 99W from around your place?

Jakey, I'm sure I'll be up for a spin next weekend as well. Maybe we should come down towards you for once...ride out to Turner and Aumsville or something like that.

Team Bridge City rides every Saturday from the Home Depot at Hwy 26 and Murray at 9:00am.

The team is sponsored by Weir's Cyclery in St John's. Several member race; several members just ride for fun and the joy of it. Saturday's ride should be around 40 - 50 miles with climbing. If you decide to come, we park at the far right of Home Depot. Ask for Dave (aka JuiceMan) who is this week's ride leader.

I'm in. I'd prefer relatively rolling hills instead of extended climbs like Thompson or Germantown - I need more solo hill work & base miles first.

Sweet. Most of you guys live up that way, but I would be more than happy to lead a ride down this way. Whatever we do... my wife just gave me a green light for saturday the 4th... so lets do something.

This weekend, I'm taking my bike to the beach... hopefully I can get 20-40 miles in...though I'm iffy about riding along 101. I'm staying near Depoe Bay... if anyone knows any good routes around there...

Maybe Sunday too, but Saturday looks much drier. I haven't been out since that ride either. I was out of town last weekend, but was able to snowshoe and ski.

Jakey, I had a Cycling the Oregon Coast brochure sometime back, picked up from a vistors' center or something. Anyway, I remember an area just north of Lincoln City where the route stayed off 101 for quite a stretch.

Okay, I'll take the initiative on this one. I say we do a Tualatin to Hillsboro loop. About 40 miles, fairly flat. Great day to concentrate on your spin and cadence.

There's a hill option near the end we can discuss, other than that, it should be fun.

9 AM at the K-Mart lot at I-5 and Tualatin Sherwood Road.

Sat. March 4th sounds like a good day for me to ride. I've been wanting to do one of these for a long time now but I've always kinda been sketched about getting dropped. I rode from beaverton to mcminnville last weekend though (38miles according to mapquest...lost my damn cyclecomputer) in an hour and 40min. with only one five min. stop to eat a clif bar, so I figure I might be able to hang for part of the group ride at least.

Depends on whether I want to do the Park Blocks alleycat that night though I guess...hmm.

Speaking of 'Sinfield', does Linfield sponser a minor in keg stands and pub craws or something? For such a small school you guys really get after it. J/K

Come on out...sounds like you'd hang just fine.

See you guys then. While my little training book says to put in miles on Sunday, I don't see why I can't join y'all on Saturday instead.

Don't worry, Sin ... I've been the one who comes in last on these rides :)

Yeah, worry not, Sin. I can count on 1 hand the number of rides I've done since the group got together in November....yikes.
