How much clothing do you have?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How much clothing do you have?

After getting into riding in the past year I have started my collection of cycling specific clothes. I think I am up to 3 pairs of shorts (not the really nice $90+ kind, but they are holding up so far). Probably 4-5 short sleeve jerseys, 2 Long sleeve jerseys, leg warmers and 2 winter weight tights.

Even so, it seems like I am constantly doing tiny loads of laundry (1-2 shirts, pair shorts etc). Do you find you end up getting more gear or do you just do small loads all the time as well?

I opt for diversity of quality gear. I've got just about one nice example of everything and a pile of bits 'for the trainer'.

2 shorts. 1 jersey. 1 lightweight pair of tights. most of it just comes into the shower with me. once a week it all goes in the machine. if anyone finds themselves with too much gear i will happily accept donations (size M) .

Cripe. I've got 6 pairs of bibs, 4 base layer shirts, and about 10 jerseys, one pair of insulated tights and a jacket and it's still not enough. I have to do "quickie" sport-wear wash loads once a week to keep up. I'm trying to stock up enough that I don't have to do that, but it's expensive . . .

I have been wearing clothes for 49 years and I'm not sure I own that many peices of clothing total. There was a time that I hated going to the laundrymat so badly that I would go buy new underwear instead of doing laundry, but that was a long time ago.
I have 3 pairs of shorts, each with a different thickness of pad. I pick my shorts depending on the length of the ride. I almost always hand wash my shorts and jersey when I am finished riding. I have 3 jerseys, 2 of which were gifts.

I've got 4-6 shorts, 3 bibs, bib knickers, a few pair of tights, and a bunch of jereys, socks, base layers, vest, caps, gloves, etc etc.
I found it worth the money to buy good (read:expensive) shorts/bibs. I also find it easy to toss my bibs in the sink with some Dr. Bronner's, hand wash them and hang them to dry right after my ride. I don't like to leave my sweaty shorts laying around growing funk between loads of laundry and I always have clean gear.

I have a lot.

Which, today I named all the spandex and polyester "my slippery clothes" because they can't be folded and put on the shelves like all my other fine garments. they just seem to end up all over the place. It took me 25 years to figure out I need some sort of drawer or bin to keep them in.

I have 5 pairs of bibs, 3 decent jerseys, 2 pair of arm warmers, 1 pair of leg warmers, 1 pair of knee warmers, a windproof vest, 6-7 pairs of socks, 1 pair of fingerless gloves, 1 pair of full finger gloves and a heavy winter jersey for those early morning commutes.

I really need a couple more jerseys or at least one more jersey.

More then some but not as much as most.

I have more shorts/bibs then anything as that is what needs to be replace for ride comfort day to day. However you can wear a jersey a few time before having to wash... A nice side to not washing your jersey is it keep people from drafting you,

3 shorts
2 jerseys (need more, definitely)
1 winter tight (wear over the shorts)
1 running jacket that suffices on cool mornings)
1 lightweight skull cap
2 gloves (one fingerless, one full)

Pretty bare-bones setup, but I will buy more of what I need as I find good deals here and there. Laundry needs sort of depend on how much filth you are willing to put up with. A quick rinse in the shower with you post-ride will lengthen the intervals between laundry.

I really don't want to go there, but I will say that everything I have gets used and if I don't use it, I sell it.

I think you need 3-4 pairs of shorts, plus enough jerseys and/or a long sleeve tops for the winter to make it through the week and only run one load of washing. If you are washing small loads in a typical top load washer the washer puts a lot of wear on the clothes, better to wash a reasonable sized load at once, say 1/2 full.

I find I get about 5 years out of a pair of shorts before the elastic starts to really let go

Interesting thread....I think 2roadies is the champ thus far.
I think I do about one load per week in season, when I ride five days a week, sometimes six.

--4 bibs
--3 beater shorts
--2 tights
--1 winter riding pant
--leg warmers
....

--4 long-sleeved jerseys
--about a dozen short-sleeved jerseys
--4 sleeveless jerseys
--2 long-sleeved base layer shirts
--2 short-sleeved base layer shirts
--2 sleeveless base-layer shirts
....

--1 wind/rain jacket
--1 winter riding jacket
--2 riding vests
--arm warmers
--balaclava
--booties
--riding gloves
--winter riding gloves

OH AND OF COURSE....REMEMBER....IT'S QUALITY NOT QUANTITY THAT MATTERS!
