Crankset/BB switch advice

My new FSA SL-K MegaExo crankset will be arriving in a few days. Before I make any stupid moves, I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on how easy or difficult it will be to switch out my current crankset/BB (TruVatiV Rouleur Carbon w/ Giga X Pipe) with the FSA.

In terms of my experience, I can hold my own in terms of bike repair - I've switched out brifters, derailers, chains, cassettes, cables, etc. with no problem. However, I have never messed around with a crankset or bottom bracket and the task just seems a little daunting. Should I just take everything to my LBS and have them do the work, or is it easier than I'm thinking? If so, any tips?

Does your FSA come with a new BB? I believe FSA and Truvativ's are not compatible, as FSA uses the Shimano standard for their BB. The external bearing BB's are really easy though. Its two tools, an allen key set and wrench thats made to engage the teeth on the bottom bracket bearing cups. If you are going standard > compact you will need to adjust/lower your front derailleur, however.

Yep, the FSA comes with an integrated MegaExo BB that's actually attached to one part of the crank. The MegaExo is an external bearing BB.

I'm not switching to compact - this is a new SL-K Carbon triple crankset.

It's not hard as long as you have the right tools. You'll need an ISIS BB socket similar to this: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=4200

And a Park BB tool for the MegaExo like this one: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=4200

And a visit to the Park tool site for some instructions. Given what you stated you can do, this shouldn't that hard. Good luck.

Exactly the advice I needed. Thanks, 55/Rad.
