Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Syntace C2 Clip Questions

I am installing a new set of Syntace C2 bars and had a few questions. In the box was a small bag with extra clamps, which I am assuming are the 1 inch lifters??? I installed 1 arm without the lifter and it sits perfectly, it doesn't move, its nice and snug. I am wondering how level that arm should be and in comparison to what. (Should the bottom clamp be as parallel as possible with equal gaps on both sides between top clamp and bottom?)

I tried to install the second arm with the lifter on to see the difference, but after tightening the bottom clamp that came in that extra bag with the lifter (not the original) the arm is way too lose and almost dangles. Should I beusing the original bottom clamp regardless of whether or not I am using the lifter? If so, what is that extra bottom clamp for and why was it coupled with the lifter specifically?

What exactly does the lifting the bars do for me?

I think they're to adapt the clipons to handlebars with a larger diameter than the ones you have. It sounds like you don't need them.

The lifting bars are an addon that AFAIK does not come with the retail product.

Syntace bars are designed to be mounted on 26.0mm handlebars, more then likely you're playing with the 318kit, which seems like it's now shipping with the syntace bars... before they never used to. Like jb said, you use that 318kit if you have oversized 31.8 handlebars, if you don't, set that kit aside incase you ever change bars, or sell the kit on ebay. And yes you do have to use the larger top part with the 318kit, on 31.8mm bars. If you have 26.0mm bars, DO NOT use any part of the 318kit.

Now another accessory that usualy doesn't come with the bars is the riser kit that fits only 26.0 bars and raises the aero bars up 1" so you don't have to bend over quite as much to sit on the aero bars. Just something they offer for the hell of it i guess.

Left u see the regular 26.0mm clamp, on the right is the full 318kit you must use on 31.8 oversized bars.
