Today I got some my front 2 chainrings switched out so it would be junior race legal. I got home and it was dark so I took a ride on the trainer and flipped through some gears. Thin once i shifted down to my lowest gear on my front( its a triple) everything was okay. Heres where i had the problem. When i tried to shift up to my middle ring it was extremely hard and it was inconsistent. Sometimes it would go to the middle one and sometimes it would skip all the way up to the largest chain ring. Why is this? Im taking it back in tomorrow to talk to the lbs.

Please excuse the elitist anti-triple snob idiots who are sure to infect this thread.
What gear were you in on your rear cassette when you were having these problems?

I can think of a couple of possible reasons for your problem.
The first is that your front derailleur wsn't relocated on your seat tube to match your new chainrings. The general rule is that it should just barely miss your big ring as you shift it outward.
The second is that when you reduced the size of the two outer chainrings that changed the relationship between the three and now the middle ring is in the "shadow" of the big ring. That's a problem we used to encounter in the 70's. Sometimes the only way to shift into the middle was to shift up into the big and back down to the middle.
Good luck.
