I'm considering doing this century. Never done it before; a few questions:
(1) How is the support, rest stops, food? (2) How difficult (steep) are the climbs? (3) Someone in this thread compared it to the Hilly Hellacious Hundred. Is that an accurate comparison of how tough the course is? (4) Anyone here planning to do it this year? |
I've heard really great things about it, and a bunch of folks from Atlanta are planning on doing it.

3 States 3 Mountains is a very good event and I am sorry that I'll have to miss it this year. It is well sagged and they cut off the number of riders at about 2000 so they can guarantee a good event for those who can get in. The mountains are quite tough with each gaining about 1400 feet in around 4 miles, but the final one up Burkhalter's Gap is especially hard. This climb is considered one of the harder climbs in the area anyway, but of course with 82 miles of rolling terrain and 2 other good climbs behind the riders, it'll be even tougher thus. Plus once you get to the top you still have to deal with some tough 10 mile rolling terrain before you can finally enjoy the nice descent down Ochs Highway and the relatively flat run to the finish.
It is at least as hard as the Cherahola Challenge. Hope this helps. Herbert Litespeed www.litespeed.com |
Seven of us will be driving down from Toronto for the event. It is an outstanding event, well supported and lots of fun but it is tough for us, being one of the first rides of our season. Save a little for the last hill.

Thanks, Herbert. Sounds like an event to shoot for. Better start mixing in some longer rides to my routine--early May isn't very far away.
Wow, Toronto is no short trip for an early season ride. |
