Jan's favorite band?
does anyone know what jan Ullrich's favorite song, music, band, etc. might be?
i want to make a clip of der Kaiser and thought it would be clever to set it to music he actually likes. If it's David hasselhof, it might not be so clever - but maybe it's the Scorpio's or something. Google was no real help. One of you cycling fan-mag people must have read an interview where he exposed his taste....
thanks

It's probably either Rammstein or Kathy Lee Gifford.

Kraftwerk? They are German, avid cyclists, and they did write "Tour De France" and "Tour De France Soundtracks". Check the songs like "Prolouge", "Areodynamik", "Electro Cardiogram" and "Vitamin".

In all seriousness, I have no idea what music Jan Ullrich likes. However, it's not too much of a stretch to imagine him stomping up the Pyrenees or Alps while I'm listening to "Du Hast" or "Du Riechst So Gut" from Rammstein's "Live Aus Berlin" CD.
Disclaimer: I like music in foreign languages, and I listen to a very wide variety of music in general. Sometimes you can just pick up on the emotion of the song, and fill in your own meaning. I don't speak German beyond "danke", "bitte", "ja" and "apfelstrudel", so I don't know what those songs are about. However I'm pretty sure they're not about bunnies playing happily in a field. If the lyrics are blatantly offensive to anyone who speaks the language, my apologies. A German friend of mine made a face when I mentioned Rammstein, but it could have just as easily been due to the musical style - she likes The Corr's, for example.

Hey HigherGround,
You are correct. It is David Etxebarria. My old-school ass has the VHS from WCP and it's on there! Right after he does it his teammate kisses him on the cheek!

To be serious, the only things I've seen him say in regards to music are: Gronemeyer (bah, it would suck for a video), electronic (hey, he was dropping E at a night club), Queen (better), and hard rock / heay metal. I'd honestly say you play off the german thing and use some Rammstein or Eisbrecher. Especially Rammstein - their catalog includes everything from slower, softer ballads to some pretty fast and heavy stuff. I think something in-between with some of the more electronic sounds they have. I hate to suggest the song thats been beat to death, but 'Du Hast' is a good mix. If you want something faster or harder go with Der Meister or Tier. Du Hast and Tier are on the Sehnsucht album, Der Meister is on Herzeleid (which in itself might be a good song..)
I personally think almost any Kraftwerk song (even though I'm a huge fan) would suck immensely for a video soundtrack. Especially Tour de France, especially for big Jan Ullrich. The man is all about brute power and racing is about pain, suffering, and aggression - Kraftwerk doesn't exude these attributes in just about any songs.
If you really must have a Kraftwerk song - use Rammstein's version of Das Model.

I do the resting very good this time, and do not take a break from the resting for 15 hours. Then I wake up, and do the kicking of the kittens, to stay sharp. While most of their songs have some pretty dark themes, the lyrics are almost never, ever blatantly offensive whatsoever. Some of the more offensive songs are probably "Bueck Dich" (Bend Over - Not really offensive and the rest of the lyrics are suggestive analogies - don't watch this stage act though....), "Spiel mit Mir" (Play with Me - which is not overtly sexual but there are some definite undertones / allusions to an incestual brother-brother relationship), Mein Teil (My Part - but Teil is slang for a man's "part" in German... IT has a double meaning in the song which about that guy who agreed to be cannibalized. Before he was killed the killer and the victim dined on certain parts together...), and finally "Rein, Raus" (which loosely means In, Out in German). There's some moaning in the background and such....
The songs I suggested though have the following lyrics:
Du Hast (You Have - not You Hate as people think... although they made an English version with those lyrics - def. a double meaning, but Hate doesn't substitute into every line):
You
you have
you have me
you have asked me
you have asked me and I have said nothing
Do you want, until death seperates you,
to be faithful to her for all days
No
Do you want, until death, which would seperate,
to love her, even in bad days
No
Tier (Animal - ok so this one might not be as clean....)
What does a man do
what does a man do
who can't tell the difference
between human and animal
what
He will go to his daughter
she is beautiful and young in years
and then, like a dog, he will
mate with his own flesh and blood
What do you do
What do you feel
What are you
but an
animal
What does the woman do
what does the woman do
who can't tell the difference
between animal and man
She dips the quill in his blood
and write herself a letter
lifeless lines to her childhood
when her father slept by her
What do you do
What do you feel
What are you
but an animal
Der Meister (The Master):
Run!
Because the master has sent us
we announce the downfall
the rider of malice
is feeding his ulcer of envy
The truth is like a thunderstorm
it comes to you, you can hear it
to reveal it, is oh so bitter
it comes to you to destroy
Because the night lay dying
we announce judgment day
there will be no mercy
run, run for your lives
The truth is a choir of wind
no angel is coming to avenge you
these days are your last
it will break you apart like little sticks
It comes to you as decay
The truth is a choir of wind
no angel is coming to avenge you
these days are your last
it will break you apart like little sticks
