Update on the E3 Form saddle.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was considering an E3 Form saddle for my commuter, but decided to get a Terry Fly Ti instead, mainly because of its reputation, and I liked the padding, and center cutout.

Instead, I got an E3 Form saddle for my wife, as she has been having trouble with every other saddle she has ever used. Along with being petite (5'3"), my wife is very athletic, and has fairly narrow hips. As a result, she has been using a number of saddles, including the following...

1. Selle Italia Lady Gel flow.

2. Performance Womens contour saddle.

3. Terry Butterfly Ti.

4. Selle Royale (Lookin) Gel MTB saddle. (Mens)

5. Selle Italia SLR. (Mine)

Her main complaint? "There is chaffing, and it hurts." That's right, every saddle she used to date caused chaffing.

Until recently, she tried my Selle Italia SLR saddle. She said she liked how it felt, and the narrow design seemed "a little" better. But not much. She still got a bit of rubbing and chaffing. She even tried a few chamois creams, to no avail.

Finally, I figured I would try the E3 Form saddle. Mainly because it has such a narrow nose. I bought her the Gel Flow version on sale at Performance for $39.99. I got 10% off for buying the demo on the shelf (which had never been used), and also another 10% off with a coupon. So I got it for about $32.00.

Anyway, after using it for a week now, she absolutely loves it. At first it took a bit to get used to, since it feels a little differant, but the narrow seat is fine for her sit bones, and the super narrow nose is perfect for her chaffing problem.

She no longer has any chaffing problems, AND she doesn't need chamois cream. She hates that stuff anyway. She has ridden it for hours now, and says it is the best saddle she has ever used.

Thanks for the review. For that price, I may check it out.

That sounds exactly like my story. I've had chafing problems with every saddle I've tried except the Selle... it caused just a little too much pressure between my tailbones to be comfortable.

I've got about a 100 miles on the E3 so far, and the chafing problem is history.

I'm going to ride a century this Saturday. If there are no problems then, I doubt I'll ever have any.
