The "Yah! I Did It!" Thread
We've had (or do have) a thread somewhere about everyone's 2006 goals. As we move along through the year, I was curious to know if anyone else is completing any of them (or their short term building blocks) yet. My overall goal for 2006 is 10000 km, and consequently each quarter is 2500km. Yesterday on a 120k ride, I rolled over 2500km for the year so far.
Thought we should have a place where folks can come and say "Yah! I did it!" regardless of how big or small the goal was. One of the rewarding things about goal setting is telling all the people you told about your goal that you met or exceeded the goal you set. So here's me saying "Yah! I did it!"
Good luck to all those who've set goals!

Hey, I'll start... I have one "I Did It!" and another "I'm Getting There"
- Goal: 1,000 miles on the trainer by mid-April (when the snow more or less is gone up here in upstate N.Y. -- I've got 650 miles to date
- Goal: start adding high intensity workouts to the mix -- now that I've cleared 500 miles as a base, I put on "Suffer-o-Rama 3.0" for the first time last night and sucked wind for 45+ minutes -- DEFINITELY one of those "I Did It!" moments. The endorphin rush lasted a couple hours...
My main goal for 2006 is to ride the 136 mile "Bronze Blast" loop of the Adirondack 540 this September -- the event weekend falls on my birthday. Figured it'd be a great way to celebrate turning 29 for about the 15th or 16th time
By then I should finally have that hard-as-nails Brooks B.17N broken in!
cheers,
Johnny

My goal for 2006 is to ride 50 km (31 miles), solo, in 1 hour 25 minutes or less (~21.9 mph average speed). On January 1 my fastest time for that distance was 1 hour 29 minutes and 7 seconds. The closest I've gotten so far this year is 1 hour 25 minutes 21 seconds, so I'm getting close. If I meet it early enough in the year I'll have to come up with a new goal.

My goals for 2006 is to finish the brevet series and ride in BMB this August. So far I have over 1,500 miles towards that goal. I also need to lose another 15 pounds, but that shouldn't be an issue by the time August rolls around.

My intentions for this year are:
Drop below 200lbs (loose about 30).
ride in the MS Tour to Tanglewood.
ride in Ride for the Roses in Austin TX, combine that with my vacatation.
I think those are realalistic and obtainable.

One of my many goals is also a minimum of 10,000 kms, but because of winter, I am no where near reaching it yet. However, that doesn't worry me, because I am still on pace for a good year according to my records from previous years.
Some of my other goals are:
-- SR series (200K, 300K, 400K, and 600K brevets)
-- BMB
-- Century-A-Month
I've got two centuries in so far (January and February) and I'm waiting till closer to the end of March for the March one.
My brevet season doesn't start till the end of April, so I won't get going on that goal till then.
And the BMB is in August.

Just a little FYI here ... the qualifying brevets for the PBP have to be completed in the year of the PBP, which starts (according to the PBP calendar) November 1, 2006. They have to be completed between November 1, 2006 and about June 15, 2007. Anything you've done before November 1, 2006, doesn't count toward the PBP.

Well, my 2006 goal for distance is officially complete! Ok, so it's a little early, but it's done.
My goal - 10,000km
As of ride completion today - 10,004.78 km.
Woohoo! My goal completion bonus is a new Giro Atmos or Pneumo Helmet. It's down to a "color" decision as we speak!

my goal had nothing to do with cycling, but cycling had allot to do with achieving it.
we climbed the dunn/westbay route on 'the diamond', the east face of longs peak in rocky mountain national park, colorado. the approach hike was over 9 miles with over 4,000 feet of elevation gain. we did it twice to get out food/gear/water out to longs. i imagine we carried 80lbs each the first hike out, and about 50lbs each the second.
this was cardiovascular suffering on a level i'd never attempted before, and cycling really did a good job of prepairing me for it.
i've posted some photos around the forum.
next year we are planning to climb the route 'aurora' on el capitan in yosemiti valley california. this will be a much longer route, and much more technical (A4), but the approach hike is under an hour, the elevation is low and the weather is generally supurb out there.

I didn't set goals because I didn't want to dissappoint myself, but I lost 40 lbs since December and got some nice looking "entry-level" quads. Neither my calves or quads are cut very much unless I flex in a very particular position so I'll be working on that this winter between my trainer and running.

My goal: lose 45 pounds this year. I've lost about 17 so far (probably more; my calves are huge!), but took mid-may may through july off. I'm hoping that getting a trainer this winter will help me out.

My goal was to bike the Blue Ridge Parkway this year...which I postponed twice last year due to family issues and illness.
Did it last month: did 485 miles and over 49,000 ft. of climbing over six days of riding...

I did my first sustained climb two weeks ago. 7.4 miles at a 3-4% grade. I didn't think that I would be able to do it without stopping, since I pedal so hard as to blow up on 400 foot hills with 50 feet of climbing, but I was able to find a pace at 9 mph and I maintained it all the way to the top.
As a result, that was also my first sustained downhill. WHEEEEEE!!!
I'm going to go and climb that one again tomorrow.

My goal for the year was just get back into bike. A year ago I sold off my bikes from some end off year cash and bought a motorcycle. It made getting to class really easy. It was fun and my “new thing” as the Gf likes to say. But the whole time without a good bike I was a little unhappy. The moto was fun, but it was not the same as going out and doing a nice road ride or hitting some trails for the day.
Well so far – I have had a Gary Fisher Mullet for about 4 months and just got (last week!!!) a specialized Allez to break me in. Money is short so I could not get the best stuff, but I am happy with having the two.
I did not think that my level of fitness had dropped so far until I was almost dead at the end of 30 miles on the allez this Saturday. I used to do 50-60 miles and still feel that I had more to give.
My goal is to get a much more fit. I am doing at least 15 a day now (7.5 mile commute). I have joined my schools bike team and my goal is to at some point race with them – for now I will settle for training with them – It is nice to have someone who knows what they are really talking about plan out your weekly schedule for you!
So I guess so far I have done it – I am back and very much into biking again. Just sucks not being at the same level I was a year ago. But in time I think I will bounce back quick. This is the joy of being young and resilient.
